"What is your vision for the future of South Africa?" This is a bold question to ask young people, in the midst of their own journeys of self-discovery, career exploration, and finding their place within vast interconnected communities. At Pivot we believe it is essential to ask such critical questions of young people, as complex and layered as they might be. By listening to diverse young voices, we gain valuable insights into their hopes for South Africa's future, which in turn inform our own work. Youth Month just ended in South Africa, centered around Youth Day on 16 June. Youth Day commemorates the Soweto uprising, a time when young South Africans took to the streets to fight for the futures they wanted for themselves and their country. The holiday serves as a poignant reminder of the power of young people to transform the world they live in. It also reminds us of the need to listen to and amplify the voices of young changemakers. At Pivot, we are continually learning how to build and support spaces that foster critical and inclusive conversations and collaborations that inform, inspire, and influence change. So, what is your vision for South Africa? #shiftingknowledgeandpower #centeringyoungvoices #myvisionforSouthAfrica

❓Did you know? Africa is the world’s youngest continent🌍, with over 60% of its population under 25. These young people face significant challenges such as climate change, a lack of economic prospects and underrepresentation in decision-making processes. However, these young Africans are increasingly taking an active role in shaping their future and identifying new solutions💡. The growing youth diaspora in Europe is also advocating for young Africans to be key drivers of change, working on solutions with new paradigms and mentalities. Search for Common Ground is proud to join forces to co-create an inclusive and youth-responsive society in Africa and Europe! With Oxfam Restless Development Youthmakers Hub and ComDev Africa. Folks, the inaugural #Africa4Africa Youth Summit is here with us. We’ll be exploring three critical questions. 1. What are the overarching challenges that have perennially plagued Africa? 2. What potential solutions and interventions are the young people of Africa implementing in their different countries to reverse the effects of these challenges. 3. How can the most creative, energetic, digital, and connected generation of this continent collaborate to design/co-create and co-implement these and more interventions beyond the existing territorial borders? These questions will be canvassed in four thematic areas: a. Social Justice and Democracy b. Decent Work & Economic Opportunities c. Climate Change & Sustainability d. Digital Innovation & Sustainability Opportunities This is your invite to join us next week. Sign up here; https://bit.ly/40lclEM

Weekends are generally for relaxation, however a week ago, I was drawn to this post made by Santher Mbacham and I found it very interesting, especially the discussions around the Africa we want. It’s inspiring to see discussions around the Africa we want, especially in areas crucial for our future. As a youth advocate and communication strategist, I believe we must spotlight the incredible work being done by young people across our communities. Initiatives like the Cameroon Youth Awards play a vital role in showcasing the positive impact of youth engagement. We celebrate young innovators and change-makers who are driving progress in their communities, whether through climate action, digital skills, or mental health initiatives. Addressing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), I echo the importance of seamless capital flow and unified border controls. But let’s not forget the power of youth-led solutions. By amplifying youth voices and leveraging platforms like the Cameroon Youth Awards we can inspire collective action and forge pathways to economic empowerment. Building inclusive communities starts with understanding and valuing our diverse narratives. Let’s continue to promote cultural sensitivity and use technology to bridge gaps in education and communication. Together, we can create the Africa we envision—one that uplifts and empowers all young people. What initiatives are you seeing that resonate with this vision?
