As we wrap up #NAW2024, we’re proud to celebrate the growth of the apprenticeship movement in Indiana. In a recent report from Apprenticeships for America on how states are driving the expansion of apprenticeships, Indiana was listed as a top five state for proportion of apprentices in the labor force in 2024. We’re excited to continue progressing the apprenticeship movement and connecting workers with education and training opportunities that prepare them for in-demand careers. https://lnkd.in/ejBQCK5A

Building off the success of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, this past week has been the 1st ever #YouthApprenticeshipWeek (YAW), which is a nationwide celebration that highlights the benefits and value of Registered Apprenticeship program opportunities for youth, ages 16–24. Employers, educators, labor unions, workforce professionals, and their partners across the country are launching Registered Apprenticeship programs that allow youth to earn competitive wages while obtaining the relevant training and experience to start their careers, often including the opportunity to earn college credit. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of active youth apprentices increased by 118% over the last 10 years, from 119,996 to 262,221. It also says that 94% of apprentices who complete a Registered Apprenticeship retain employment – with an average annual salary of $80,000. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/evRRmHhm

Registered apprenticeships are “earn-and-learn” training programs where participants receive classroom instruction and earn wages through on-the-job work experience. Unlike other training programs, apprentices do not accrue debt or pay for their education; these costs are covered by program sponsors or employers. Due to its importance in education and workforce development, the State of California established a goal of training 500,000 registered apprentices by 2029. To help reach this goal, the San Diego-Imperial region would need to contribute 45,000 apprentices. Currently, the region has 15,806 apprentices and would need 29,194 more by 2029. To assist the region with developing registered apprenticeship programs, the San Diego & Imperial Center of Excellence (COE) examined labor market and apprenticeship data to: 1) determine what registered apprenticeships exist in California and the San Diego-Imperial region; 2) examine ways the community colleges could develop more registered apprenticeship programs; and 3) identify apprenticeable, high-wage, and high-demand occupations that community colleges should target for program development Source: https://lnkd.in/gnDyxyxi Erica L. We love that we get to be a partner with Apprenticeship 2.0. The latest episode offers some history on apprenticeship at the federal level and brings the conversation to teacher apprenticeship in Colorado. "In the second of Apprenticeship 2.0’s two-part series on institutions of higher education and apprenticeship degrees, Joe and Liz chat with Dr. Pam Eddinger, President of Bunker Hill Community College in Massachusetts, and Dr. Liz Qualman, Director of Teacher Education at Colorado Mountain College. Together, they discuss the U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Committee for Apprenticeship, how that committee is addressing needs to advance registered apprenticeships, how teacher apprenticeship programs are weaving social justice into the teaching fabric, how apprenticeship programs can serve as a key solution to the teacher shortage, and much more." A question our American Institutes for Research apprenticeship team gets asked a lot is how states are using federal investments to expand apprenticeship. Check out this infographic from my colleagues Gina Wells and Meghan Wills that explores the impact federal funds has had on Apprenticeship Expansion since 2016. https://lnkd.in/g4g6CN5q

As we see large numbers of tradesmen retiring and lower numbers of incoming workers we also see wages going up. Skilled workers are in great demand and it's a fantastic time to take advantage of it. Speak with students about the value of apprenticeships and building a solid foundation early. #SkilledTrades #TradesmanNeeded #BuildingTheFuture https://lnkd.in/g4iS9wwh.

It is the inaugural year for Youth Apprenticeship Week, which celebrates the benefits of Registered Apprenticeships for youth. Registered Apprenticeship programs across the state link education with the workforce and provide Iowa’s young people with opportunities to develop valuable technical skills, earn credits and wages and train for a future career. #ChooseYourPathwayIA #YAW2024 #ApprenticeshipUSA
