Offshore #wind is an established industry in many countries around the globe, providing clean and reliable #energy as the world continues to #decarbonise. Though Australia is yet to fully tap into this resource, the Australian Government is taking steps to build the industry, naming six designated #offshorewind areas around the country. Further, the Australian Centre for Offshore Wind Energy (ACOWE) was launched in July 2024 to address the #challenges standing in the way of the sector. It's a collaboration between six founding universities – the University of Melbourne, Deakin University, Federation University Australia, the University of Newcastle, The University of Western Australia and the University of Wollongong, all strategically located within Australia’s declared or proposed offshore wind zones In this article, we talk all things offshore wind with ACOWE Director, Shiaohuey Chow, including how the Centre is planning on supporting the development of an Australian industry.

Thank you to the Commonwealth Government of Australia for selecting BlueFloat Energy’s Gippsland Dawn project in the Feasibility License tender in Gippsland (Victoria)!!! If we are formally awarded a Feasibility License following the upcoming consultation with Traditional Owners, this will be a major event for BlueFloat Energy: 1) It would consolidate our presence in Australia, a market where we were one of the first developers to enter more than 3 years ago. We always believed in the strong potential of the Aussie offshore market!!! 2) It would be our third consecutive successful competitive tender following @Scotwind (3 licenses awarded) and INTOG (2 licenses awarded), both in Scotland. That makes a 100% success rate so far!!! 3) Gippsland Dawn would be our first fixed-bottom project to secure exclusive seabed lease. Yes, BlueFloat Energy does fixed-bottom too!!! 4) It would be the first project we secure with a 100% ownership, consolidating our position as a top tier developer!!! I could not be prouder of the amazing people that constitute our Dream Team. An amazing group of experienced professionals working as a global team with the shared purpose of contributing to decarbonizing our world. More good news to come soon… #Offshorewind #Australia #Gippsland #Renewablenergy #Energytransition #Sustainability

12GW cancelled! The offshore wind development in the US is facing several challenges. Major players have abandoned their licenses. The slow approval process leaves developers in limbo for several years, while ocean lease costs are high and not a guarantee for project development. Moreover, material cost increases are not recoverable, among other issues. The 30GW goal for 2030 may be reduced to +/- 15GW. #renewableenergy #offshorewind #USenergy #sustainability

Scottish ports are central to Scotland’s #offshorewind supply chain so the joined-up thinking this represents is so important. Two thumbs up for this one!
Leading ports across Scotland have today launched the Scottish Offshore Wind Ports Alliance (SOWPA), a strategic alliance and progressive forum created to optimise the opportunities from offshore wind. The alliance will optimise large-scale operations, enhance regional competitiveness and address common & complex industry challenges through knowledge sharing and collaboration. Iain Sinclair, SOWPA’s Chair, said: “It is widely recognised that ports have a critical enabling role in the industrialisation and deployment of offshore wind in the UK. Today’s announcement demonstrates that ports are motivated to take the initiative, work proactively and diligently together, and align with the whole offshore wind ecosystem, to maximise the localisation of the supply chain requirements. “SOWPA’s collective capability, knowledge and expertise is a world-leading value proposition. We have a willingness and appetite to enhance our competitiveness, address supply chain challenges and deliver against Scotland and the UK’s offshore wind ambitions.” Offshore wind is set to play a critical role in Scotland’s targets to reach net zero emissions by 2045. The existing 10GW of installed offshore wind capacity is set to triple through the ScotWind leasing round, adding a further 30GW to this total over the next 10 years. Recognising their role as critical enablers for wider supply chain development, SOWPA’s launch, provides a clear signal to industry on their members willingness to work together with the collective ambition to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind and support the national energy transition. #radicalimplementation is about taking the critical path to getting clean energy steel in the ground. We don't need any more high level studies, we need to originate clean energy project pipelines at scale, aggregate projects and de-risk them for investment. Today, our Southeast Asia Energy Program, under the auspices of our newly established Catalytic Climate Capital (C3) initiative, has launched a groundbreaking pre-feasibility study on the Philippines Offshore Wind market that identified near term investible opportunities for near shore wind, suitable locations, environmental and social impacts, along with cost considerations for future offshore energy projects. The three sites identified for near term investment are low hanging fruit and will act as a catalyst for opening up more near and future offshore wind investment opportunities. Special thanks to our partners, AboitizPower, #ClimeCapital,, #TaraClimateFoundation, and #USTDA for their support in making this report possible. 📣📣 During a visit to Saint-Nazaire on May 2, French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire detailed the government's ambitious plan to boost offshore wind capacity to 45 GW by 2050, an increase from the previously set target of 40 GW. This revised goal is part of France's broader Energy-Climate Strategy, which aims for a progressive scale-up of offshore wind power: 4 GW by 2030 and 18 GW by 2035. Currently, France has successfully connected three offshore wind farms. To achieve the 2035 milestone, 15 more projects are in various stages: three nearing completion, three set for deployment by 2031, and nine undergoing the tendering process. Additionally, a new tender for 10 GW is in consideration, reflecting a significant commitment to developing renewable energy within Europe, with at least half of the capacity intended to be locally produced. https://lnkd.in/dey4dnjK
