This carnival of consumption has a cost: not just to our wallets and our waistlines, but also to the climate. https://lnkd.in/gdwCnnzt?

🎄🌟 Christmas is a time for celebration, indulgence, and joy. It often involves increased spending on food and gifts, but there's more to consider during the festive season. From decorative lighting to heating and cooking, Christmas can lead to a significant spike in energy usage. In the past, if you made a big effort to save energy at Christmas, you might have been called a Grinch, but with rising energy costs and concerns about the climate crisis, there's a growing awareness of the need to reduce energy consumption. Fortunately, there are various ways to make your Christmas more eco-friendly without dampening the festive spirit. By adopting small everyday actions and considering larger initiatives, you can lessen your environmental footprint and save on costs while still enjoying the holiday season. It's important to remember that embracing energy-efficient practices is not just for Christmas – it's a choice that benefits both your wallet and the planet in the long term. Wishing you a joyful and sustainable Christmas celebration!🎄🌟 #christmas #holiday #energysaving #energy #sustainability #electricity #planet #energytransition #future #planning #netzero

Every day, I’m inspired scrolling through LinkedIn. My network is full of dedicated colleagues across the UK working tirelessly to nurture and support young people in our 3,491 children’s homes. The trauma-informed care, innovative frameworks, and life-changing opportunities shared here reflect the incredible efforts of both local authorities and private providers. But amidst all this fantastic work, there’s an opportunity we can’t overlook. A brighter future for our children also means a healthier future for our planet. 🌍 As a network, we have the collective power to make a real difference. If each home reduced its carbon footprint by just 1,000kg of CO₂e, imagine the impact we could achieve—together. This isn’t about “boring sustainability talk.” It’s about taking meaningful steps today for the young people we care for and for generations to come. So, here’s a simple start this Christmas: The Scrunch Test for recyclable wrapping paper. 🎁 Scrunch it: If it stays in a ball, it’s likely recyclable. Check for glitter or foil: If it sparkles or shimmers, it’s not recyclable. This tip, inspired by the fantastic Climate Champions at Doncaster Council, it is a small step that we can all take this festive season. Small actions, multiplied by thousands of homes, can spark big change. Let’s lead by example and show our young people that caring for our planet is part of building their brighter future. 🌱 What small steps are you taking this Christmas to reduce waste or your carbon footprint? I’d love to hear your ideas and for your to share this simple tip! #Sustainability #CareForChildren #ClimateAction #BrighterFuture #Leadership #Everydayisaschoolday
