📢 DOE is seeking experts to support siting, planning, and permitting initiatives! The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy is requesting applications from TA providers who have a deep understanding of renewable energy planning, siting, and permitting topics and demonstrated experience providing advisory, educational, or technical assistance services. Selected TA providers will provide technical support to R-STEP collaboratives to improve their understanding of priority LSRE siting topics, inform the development of state-based resources, and strengthen the ability of collaboratives to serve as a trusted source of information within their states. To learn more about this opportunity, we will be hosting an Informational Webinar/Objective Strategic Session on Tuesday, November 19th from 3:00-4:00 PM ET. Please use the link below to register! https://lnkd.in/e6uRJ-7f We also encourage potential applicants to visit our website to read more about important dates, program eligibility criteria, and more! https://lnkd.in/eaqM-Pag

Yesterday, we released an inventory of renewable siting policies and permitting processes for every state. The existing regulatory landscape illuminates barriers and opportunities to large-scale renewable deployment and permitting reform. Don't miss our webinar next week with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Berkeley Lab: https://lnkd.in/gvShkytM!
A new report and interactive tool from the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) and Clean Air Task Force, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Berkeley Lab, and Consensus Building Institute, catalogues state renewable energy siting policies and permitting authorities across the United States, profiling all 50 states plus Puerto Rico. The report and interactive map serve as an essential resource for policymakers, project developers, and community members navigating the complex landscape of renewable energy project permitting and siting across the U.S. This report identifies which government entity or entities in each state or territory have the jurisdictional authority to make siting and permitting decisions about large-scale wind and solar projects. The report also covers established timelines for the siting and permitting processes, requirements for public involvement, and the availability of permitting guides and model ordinances designed to assist local jurisdictions. The projected savings show why renewable energy can be a smart financial decision for communities.
One of the significant advantages of renewable energy is the option to reduce power purchase prices, providing communities with rates traditionally only available to regional utilities. For our Alliance project, we successfully maintained the originally agreed-upon energy costs in 2021 with Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) and the city of Alliance. This achievement translates into projected savings of $3.2 million for the city of Alliance over the lifespan of the power purchase agreement, compared to current solar power market rates.

I need some help y'all! The COSSA Institute hosts Zoom workshops with the municipal and cooperative utilities in Colorado to discuss everything solar, energy storage, and the changing grid. We are setting up our next workshop, about how to manage feeders nearing capacity (esp. due to renewable energy). Do you have any suggestions on who may be able to speak about how to best manage feeders nearing capacity due to renewable energy deployment? (They also need to be available the morning of November 12th) It has proven difficult to find people knowledgeable on this topic. The attendees of our workshop are a mix of cooperative and municipal utility employees - mainly managers, engineers, and renewable energy specialists, but it does shift a bit depending on each individual topic. We have around 30-40 attendees, representing 15-20 utilities depending on the workshop. That being said, our attendees already have the solar and electrical knowledge and are ready for 300 level content. They know the basics.

Join us for the “Corporate Transparency Act Reporting for Renewable Energy Developers, Private Equity Funds, and Investors” webinar. Speakers Carson Haddow and Carl Valenstein of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP will provide renewable energy counsel, developers, and investors guidance on the compliance and reporting requirements of the Corporate Transparency Act of 2021 (CTA), effective Jan. 1, 2024. The panel will discuss specific CTA reporting challenges for renewable energy industry developers and private equity and infrastructure funds, how the CTA may impact legal agreements, and the impact of the CTA on privacy concerns of both U.S. and foreign persons within the renewable energy industry. What are the key provisions of the CTA? What is the impact on domestic and foreign companies? What are the reporting requirements under the CTA rules? How do you determine which companies are considered reporting companies under the CTA? How do you determine who are beneficial owner(s) under the CTA? What are the compliance challenges unique to the renewable energy industry and related companies? What are the potential ramifications for noncompliance? Date: Thursday, June 20, 2024 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST Register Here: https://lnkd.in/gc9-rgVA

Learn about a new interactive tool that catalogues state renewable energy siting policies and permitting authorities across the United States:
Before a large-scale solar or wind project can be built in the U.S., its developers face the complicated process of siting and permitting. A recent report and interactive tool from Clean Air Task Force and Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP), with support from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Berkeley Lab, and Consensus Building Institute catalogues state renewable energy siting policies and permitting authorities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The report identifies which government entity or entities in each state or territory have the jurisdictional authority to make siting and permitting decisions about large-scale wind and solar projects. It's a powerful tool for policymakers, project developers, and community members looking to better understand the decision-making dynamics of siting and permitting large-scale renewable energy projects in their states and across the U.S. https://lnkd.in/eppg6Bbz
