🎉 Exciting News! 📝 My latest research has just been published in #naturecommunications. I'm thrilled to share my paper on on-chip frequency comb sources. This breakthrough technology offers compact, energy-efficient, and cost-effective solutions for various applications from #lidar to #telecommunications. In this paper, we discuss how we overcame the fundamental trade-off between controllability and bandwidth. Traditional approaches either provide broadband combs without control over spectral envelope or offer controlled combs with limited bandwidth. However, through innovative methods, we achieved agile spectral multiplication of a narrowband comb. By exploiting the nonlinear dynamics of a multi-wavelength laser under frequency comb injection, we demonstrated spectral multiplication of the frequency comb at frequency offsets ranging from 26 GHz to 1.3 THz. What's more, our system offers nanosecond switching capability, enabling fast switching and versatility in various applications. Special thanks to my colleagues: Martin Virte, Pablo Marin-Palomo, and Mathieu Ladouce for their valuable contributions. Join me in exploring the vast potential of this technology! With compatibility across generic platform, our approach holds promise for scalable and versatile solutions. Together, we can pave the way for a new generation of #THz applications, unlocking opportunities for low-cost, compact, and power-efficient THz comb sources. This video from the Edmund Optics Silicon Valley lab shows how short wave infrared (SWIR) imaging can easily spot things that are difficult to see with conventional lenses! SWIR light interacts with many materials differently than visible light, and in this case it makes identifying which well plates are filled with water easy because water absorbs SWIR light Advances in SWIR sensors have significantly reduced the cost of SWIR cameras, leading to explosive growth in these applications! Edmund Optics has some great new SWIR lenses, like the C Series SWIR Lenses used in this video: https://lnkd.in/eqdB2Z-n Our Silicon Valley lab is open for visitors to experiment with different machine vision setups! Our experts there will help you find the right lenses, cameras, and lighting for your specific application Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eXSvdk6U #Optics #Imaging #MachineVision

Quantum Sensing Everywhere... Let that sink in for a minute. The applications? Endless. And to be honest, you might need more than a minute to start imagining them all. This is where things get exciting... UBIQUT is a spinout company with an exclusive license to UNSW's propriety quantum sensor (magnetometer) technology, redefining what's possible in precision detection. Picture this: compact sensors, built to operate at room temperature with low power use and reduced noise, thereby removing the limitations of current sensors. With the quantum magnetometer market to grow to US$1.1bn by 2029, UBIQUT is in the front seat to bring quantum sensors anywhere, at scale. This is just the beginning. #quantumsensors #UNSWInnovation #outthebackventures #precisiondetection #quantummagnetometer Out The Back Ventures

Throwback from #RealIZM Up to now, #machine #maintenance has mainly been reactive. However, proactive #condition #monitoring can indicate problems before they arise and thus prevent production downtimes. Together with Fraunhofer IPMS and other partners at iCampus Cottbus, Fraunhofer IZM is working on improving maintenance cycles. With the help of multi-sensor technology, #artificial #intelligence and information fusion, the aim is to enable companies to plan inspection, maintenance and servicing measures for machines and Industry 4.0 applications with foresight. To this end, researchers have developed a powerful sensor fusion kit for AI-based edge computing. In a short film on our science blog, we present how this kit works: https://ow.ly/UWj350QHNj7 You can find out more about microsensor technology for Industry 4.0, the environment and energy at the iCampµs-Cottbus Conference (iCCC 2024) from May 14 to 16.
