The International Day of Clean Energy, observed every 26th day of January, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly (resolution A/77/327) to raise awareness and mobilize action for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy that will both benefited by people and the planet.
January 26 also marks the founding anniversary of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), a global intergovernmental organization established in 2009. IRENA supports countries in their energy transitions and serves as a platform for international cooperation, offering data, analysis and insights on clean energy technologies, innovation, policies, finance, and investments.
Renewable energy is crucial to achieving sustainable development and building climate resilience. Clean energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower drive efforts to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy security, and create green jobs. According to the United Nations, every $1 invested in renewables generates three times more jobs than in the fossil fuel industry.
Commit to support clean energy. Let us accelerate the shift to clean energy systems to mitigate climate change and protect future generations. Through this little and simple ways will contribute a lot in creating a positive change in our environment.
