"In all structural and predictive task scenarios, the quantum kernels exhibited superior performance compared to their classical counterparts. No, the Dirac quantum "machines" from Quantum Computing Inc. are NOT general-purpose quantum computers. I would characterize the Dirac-1, Dirac-2, and Dirac-3 as special-purpose quantum computing devices, in the same category as the D-Wave machines and the QuEra Computing Inc. machines running in analog mode. That's not to say that they aren't useful, but simply that they are more suited to niche applications, typically optimization, rather than the very broad range of application categories of truly general-purpose quantum computers. Check out the results of our recent experiment using the all-new Dirac-3, our highest performance quantum machine. This is a beautiful ✨ visualization of a solution to a maximum cut problem: there is a fixed set of lines (edges) connecting the dots (nodes), with the goal of maximizing the number of lines which cross from left to right. This is in the hardest class of optimization problems – referred to as NP-hard optimization problems – and often is used to test the performance of optimizers.
