Transitioning from the oil and gas sector to the manufacturing industry has provided me with valuable insights and experiences. Here's a concise overview of my observations: The manufacturing sector operates at a rapid pace, demanding quick decision-making, adaptability, and agility to navigate constant changes. Success hinges on the ability to think on one's feet and swiftly adjust to external dynamics. Similar to any business environment, production targets are paramount in manufacturing, often leading to inadvertent compromises on safety protocols by personnel on the shop floor. Mitigating this risk requires regular inspections, comprehensive training, and holding individuals accountable for their actions. In this domain, numerical data takes precedence over lengthy narratives, offering actionable insights efficiently. Emphasizing concise communication facilitates streamlined processes and facilitates informed decision-making. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can prove elusive in the face of the industry's demanding nature. It falls upon individuals to proactively manage their schedules to ensure sustainable equilibrium. The fast-paced and engaging nature of the work can easily lead to immersion without awareness, highlighting the need for self-awareness and boundary-setting. #oilandgasindustry #manufacturingindustry #safetymatters #leadershipjourney #journeyofgrowth #journeytoexcellence #journeytosuccess #journeytogreatness #journeytowardstransformation

Talk kindly to your people, it really helps. A few years back I was working for an oil and gas operator and we discovered that there was a total disconnect between line management and our front line people. It wasn't that the managers didn't go out and talk to people, they did, but it was the WAY they talked to people. There was no active listening and almost zero positive reinforcement of good behaviours. We actually resorted to training our line managers how to listen and how to talk in a positive manner, just waking around finding fault doesn't help anything to improve, it just disincentivises your work force. And it wasn't necessarily deliberate behaviour on the managers part, they just didn't know any other way. It transformed our safety and operational performance. Did you ever walk out and actually listen to how your line managers communicate ? its not all technical skills, soft skills are equally important if you want a motivated workforce. It's good to talk. #transformation #operationalexcellence #activelistening #positivereinforcement
