Call for Papers - Inequalities in maternal and perinatal outcomes. Timely, high-quality, respectful care is crucial for positive pregnancy and birth outcomes, but improvements in maternal healthcare have not been universally applied, leading to disparities across racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, geographic, age, and physical dimensions. Understanding these disparities is essential for informing targeted interventions and policies to promote equity in maternal and perinatal health. https://lnkd.in/es2SuPcY

As Women's Health Week comes to and end, NEOMED recognizes the importance of maternal health. Director of the Center for Global Health Innovation, Bernhard Fassl, M.D., found his calling while working in Nepal and experienced tragic events of women being unable to give birth in a safe environment. That experience led him to focus on pediatrics and maternal health in the context of global health and he has facilitated similar opportunities and experiences for students of medicine. He says “People need access to at least basic support services for maternal care. By basic, I really mean basic. You don't need a doctor. You just need a trained health care provider who knows how to monitor and to intervene early enough to prevent the most common causes of mortality." Excited to share our work, 'Appraising LaQshya’s potential in measuring quality of care for mothers and newborns,' published in BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth! Had a great opportunity to work on this project with extremely talented professionals at the Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and lead the analysis comparing LaQshya, India's Labor Room Quality Improvement Initiative, to WHO standards. LaQshya, launched in 2017, aims to enhance intrapartum care by minimizing complications, enforcing protocols, and promoting respectful maternity care. The study sheds light on LaQshya's strengths, such as utilizing proven strategies like institutional structures and performance incentives, while also identifying areas for enhancement, such as addressing harmful labor practices and strengthening governance structures. #Digitaltwins are set to revolutionize #pregnancy care. From predicting preterm birth to understanding placental blood flow, this groundbreaking technology promises safer pregnancies and healthier outcomes for birthing parents and babies. Digital twins are virtual representations of real individuals that integrate computational models with real-time data. The extension of this approach to pregnancy—creating virtual pregnancies—holds immense promise for understanding and addressing the specific risk factors that contribute to poor maternal health outcomes. Many (most) expectant moms don't know how badly the US is doing when it comes to maternity care and maternal health. It can be a big shock for parents when they see the data. If mom doesn't have the resources for independent childbirth education and support she's unlikely to come across this information. OBs are hardly having this type of conversation in the first prenatal... https://lnkd.in/ghsNAZ_H #pregnancy #maternalhealth #maternalmortality #maternalmorbidity #cesarean #gentlebirthapp #mindfulpregnancy #evidencebased

One of the many things that Florida Healthy Start Coalitions throughout the state do is help families and pregnant women navigate the healthcare system. As trusted members of the community, we know providers in the area and we know our clients needs and concerns. We're there when moms have questions about doctor's appointments, pregnancy, and how to care for themselves and their baby during the post-partum period. #maternalchildhealth #maternitycare #pregnancy #pregnancyhealth “We do know that the type of care that women receive may be different. Some of that may be due to lack of access, some of that may be due to implicit bias, some of it may be due to a historical distrust of the healthcare system. So it’s very layered, it’s very multi-factorial. There have to be very comprehensive strategies that address those social determinants of health if we’re ever going to move the needle,” said Brown." https://lnkd.in/e-VhxTTN
