Collaboration is key…
Homelessness is a social, economic, and public health problem of growing magnitude in the United States, with New Jersey’s homeless population still rising beyond 10,000 persons. Today, homeless individuals face many complex problems, which makes it important to take a different approach. We need to take action together! Let’s create a "Community-Based Collaboration" to eradicate women and family homelessness. Community-based collaboration is the process by which citizens, agencies, organizations, and businesses make formal, sustained commitments to work together to accomplish a shared vision. It requires a commitment to share decision-making and the allocation of human, physical, and financial resources. When communities do not develop a pattern of collaboration, they diminish community development potential. Effective collaboration results in win-win-win situations. So, who’s in? 🌟 Elevated Denver is excited to announce the release of our latest Issue Brief: "Community Landscape: Gaps in the Housing & Homelessness System Keep People in Crisis." This report is a culmination of extensive research, including interviews with 38 unhoused individuals and insights from two community forums. Our findings reveal significant systemic barriers that keep individuals trapped in cycles of homelessness, such as limited accessibility to essential services, overwhelmed case management systems, and inadequate post-housing support. Despite these challenges, we discovered inspiring resilience within the community, bolstered by strong social networks and dedicated advocacy organizations. "For many of our unhoused neighbors, trusted relationships with case managers and community support networks are lifelines that provide both hope and tangible assistance in overcoming daily challenges." We invite policymakers, public leaders, and community members to engage with these insights and collaborate with us to drive meaningful change in Denver's housing and homelessness systems. Together, we can create a more inclusive and effective system that supports all individuals in achieving stability and dignity. As we recognize Youth Homelessness, Outreach, Prevention, and Education (HOPE) Month, it’s essential to address the link between foster care and youth homelessness. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), approximately 1,500 youth age out of Texas foster care each year. Reports indicate that around 20% become homeless within the first year of leaving care and nearly 50% experience homelessness within 18 months. These numbers underscore the urgent need for support and resources for youth, especially those transitioning from foster care. Every young person deserves a safe, stable environment to thrive. Join RMYA this #YouthHOPEMonth to raise awareness and advocate for lasting change so that no child is left without hope. 💙 #SupportOurYouth #HopeForChange #HopeforHomelessYouth

In the heart of New York City, a groundbreaking initiative promises to rewrite the narrative for the homeless population. NYC's blueprint to end homelessness by 2025 includes single-occupancy warming centers that offer more than just a temporary shelter. With a $50 million budget, these centers will double as resource hubs, providing private showers, fresh clothes, and essential job training, mental health, and substance abuse programs. The initiative will kick off in high-need neighborhoods, with existing buildings transformed into welcoming centers. Collaboration is key, and partnerships with government agencies and local businesses are being forged to ensure success. Local voices will shape the centers, meeting real needs with empathy and effectiveness. By 2025, New York City aims to dismantle homelessness, one life at a time. The warming centers offer more than just refuge; they're a stepping stone to a brighter future. With the support of the community, a shower, and clean clothes, we're opening doors to new beginnings. The city that never sleeps is awakening to the needs of its most vulnerable, and we're united in this mission. Let's celebrate a future where every New Yorker has not just a place to stay, but a path to thrive. #NYC #endhomelessness #communitysupport #newbeginnings

At Outreach, we know the harsh truth—85% of the youth we serve have been through the foster care system. As the number of homeless youth continues to rise in Marion County, so does this number. It’s a number that demands change. Kyle Williams, our Director of Coaching, emphasizes that at Outreach it’s not just about addressing today’s challenges—it’s about finding long-term solutions and tackling the root causes. Our youth and young adults need more than quick fixes; they need systematic changes to address the deep, systemic issues that have shaped their lives for years. We’re committed to changing the future for these young people. Together, we can reverse this trend and make a real difference in the lives of our youth and young adults in Marion County. 🫣 Family homelessness is real, even if we don’t always see it. 👀 Homelessness in our community is more complex than a single number can show. HUD’s definition of homelessness counts those in shelters or on the streets, while the McKinney-Vento definition used in schools includes families and children who may be doubled up or staying temporarily with others. Both views are essential in beginning to understand the true scope of the crisis—because homelessness affects individuals and families differently, requiring a unique approach to support all community members without a stable home. Families facing homelessness need tailored support and specific resources, especially when it comes to finding housing and overcoming employment, childcare, and transportation barriers. By recognizing both key definitions of homelessness and building a collaborative network of community organizations, schools, and service providers, we can create a safety net that meets each family and individual’s needs. Family Promise of Greater Wichita is committed to bridging these gaps and working together with our incredible community partners to create lasting solutions. 💛 https://lnkd.in/eqPpb5wc #FamilyPromiseWeek #HomelessnessAwareness #FamilyHomelessness #InvisibleCrisis #KeepingOurPromise #GrowingTogether #TogetherWeCan #CommunityCollaboration

At Larkin Street Youth Services, we stand at the forefront of addressing the complex issue of youth homelessness in San Francisco and beyond. A comprehensive report on homelessness service providers in California published yesterday by the Terner Center for Housing Innovation at UC Berkeley sheds light on critical areas, affirming our strategies and inspiring further innovation in our approach. Key takeaways from the report include: + Navigating Funding Landscape: The importance of stable, flexible funding to allow for innovation and support essential administrative functions. + Staffing Challenges: The critical need for competitive wages and support for workforce development to attract and retain dedicated staff. + Addressing Complex Needs: The necessity for resources to support mental health and substance use challenges, highlighting the effectiveness of trauma-informed care. + Collaborative Efforts: The power of partnerships and community support in enhancing our services and reaching more young people in need. These insights reinforce the path Larkin Street is on, underscoring the significance of our community's support, the ingenuity of our team, and the impact of our partnerships. We are reminded that our collective action can transform the lives of young people experiencing homelessness, providing them with the hope and opportunities they deserve.
