Cubenergy’s BESS project in a rural area of Brazil has been operating for 3 years. The diverse geography of South America, including vast distances between population centers, poses challenges for grid expansion and interconnection. As part of a Europe-wide project, we are working to cover more of our energy requirements from renewable sources. One important development is our agreement with ENGIE Energy Management Solutions GmbH to purchase electricity from a new wind farm 🌱🔋. This facility is located in Einbeck, Lower Saxony, and consists of nine wind turbines that are 240 meters high and have a total output of 49.5 megawatts. REHAU Automotive, REHAU Industries and RAUMEDIC use 67% of the electricity produced there. This enables us to cover 24% of the annual consumption of the plants and administrative sites of these subgroups in Germany. ❗We're excited to announce the start of our new project on the "Assessment of policy options for securing inertia"! 📉 How to ensure #gridstability across the different synchronous systems in Europe during the energy transition and its increasing penetration of asynchronous wind and solar energy generation? ⏱️ #Inertia is the power system’s ability to maintain a stable electrical nominal frequency of 50 Hz using kinetic energy stored in rotating generators connected to the grid. With the transition to an increasing share of wind and solar energy generation in the electricity system and the phasing-out of conventional (synchronous) power plants, the inertial strength of power systems is declining. 📖 To address the new challenge of decreasing inertia, it is necessary to consider and implement alternative solutions to enable stable system operation with increased shares of inverter-connected renewable energy sources. The project will research the future stability challenges and inertia needs in the European electricity system, identify policy options to overcome these challenges, and assess these policy options from a societal perspective. Based on these assessments, we will provide recommendations and consult network operators, market parties and the authorities on our recommendations. 🤝 Trinomics, in collaboration with Artelys (lead) and TRACTEBEL, will conduct this study for the European Commission's DG Energy. What is a low-cost alternative to line extensions on single-phase low-voltage grids that can help accommodate the increasing adoption of solar energy? The ECOTAP® VPD® I. Single-phase low-voltage grids are particularly widespread in the USA and Australia. The advantages of such grids are that they are easy to install, and the investment costs are comparatively low. However, absorption capacities are quickly reached when more and more households install solar systems on their roofs. ⚡ The low-cost alternative to line extensions is our ECOTAP® VPD® I, which also makes single-phase transformers controllable.
