🚛🌱 Selected Applicants for the EPA Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program! 🌍✨ The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is excited to announce the 70 selected applicants for the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program! Over $735M will be provided to these innovative projects to support a significant step forward in advancing cleaner, more sustainable transportation solutions across the U.S. in 27 states, along with three Tribes or Tribally-controlled schools, and one U.S. territory. The selected projects aim to reduce harmful emissions, enhance air quality, and help transition the nation’s heavy-duty vehicle fleet to a cleaner, greener future. By supporting these efforts, we are investing in technologies that will not only benefit public health but also contribute to a more sustainable, climate-friendly economy. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the launch of the nearly $1B Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program, an incentivizing path for replacing polluting heavy-duty vehicles with zero-emission vehicles. The program will advance eligible Class 6 and 7 no-emission vehicles and fund zero-emission vehicle fueling infrastructure. Currently, more than 3 million Class 6 and 7 vehicles are in use across the country. According to EPA’s figures, this includes everything from box trucks to school buses, refuse haulers, dump trucks, street sweepers, bucket trucks, utility trucks, and delivery trucks. https://buff.ly/3QGPf60 #transportation #environment #energy #infrastructure #carbonemissions #carbonreduction

Cleaning up heavy-duty vehicles is critical to combat the climate crisis and to advance environmental justice. Last week the EPA released final greenhouse gas standards for heavy-duty vehicles, continuing its efforts to reduce climate pollution from transportation. “EPA took a critical step to clean up pollution from trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles that have an outsized impact on our climate and do major harm to communities that have traditionally borne the brunt of pollution from highways and industrial sites. These new standards will help reduce climate pollution while improving health outcomes for hard-hit communities, but we also know more is needed to clean up the largest and most polluting trucks.” - Trip Pollard, SELC Senior Attorney and Leader of the Land and Community Program. https://lnkd.in/egzdGtXi

GOOD NEWS: today's final heavy-duty trucks rule from US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will deliver much needed pollution reductions where they're needed most—and is a major step toward electrifying all U.S. trucks. Read our statement from Evergreen VP of policy Craig Segall: "Electrifying America’s trucking fleet will cut emissions from one of the most carbon polluting parts of the most polluting sector of our economy and deliver meaningful public health benefits—particularly in communities that have long called for action to address the unfair dangers they face from dirty trucks. We know there’s more to do—including electrifying existing fleets, not just new vehicles, and completing the path to zero these standards begin—but this is a key piece of the puzzle and this is a good day." "I believe that while the challenges we face are great and timing is of the essence, technical NGOs can play a decisive role today in meeting and overcoming them." In a new interview on our blog, former Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality at the EPA Margo Oge, and her successor Chris Grundler, describe the critical importance of technical assistance to informing the development of ambitious #climate and #cleanair rules. Read how expert NGOs, like our Alliance lead for vehicles, The International Council on Clean Transportation, are providing the unbiased research and analysis essential to smart policymaking. https://lnkd.in/gnFxx-Dp
