In #India, our education system is beset with the problem of a large number of graduates passing out annually, but their employability rates are abysmally low. [https://lnkd.in/gss4BrE5] This means that about one in two graduates is not readily employable straight out of college. However, it must be noted that this percentage has improved from around 34% to 51.3% in the last decade. The Indian educational system, along with governmental bodies, is working to improve these rates. But what about the students graduating now and those who will graduate over the next decade? Is it fair to saddle them with this incongruence due to the system—including parents, the educational system, and the government—not making rapid changes? It is time to tweak the educational system to make it more realistic and in sync with real-world requirements. The disconnect between academia and real life exists everywhere, and it is more pronounced in educational institutions located in the hinterlands of India. Today companies are looking for a combination of #softskills like #communication, #problemsolving, #teamwork, #emotionalintelligence, #cognitiveskills, #criticalthinkingabilites etc. and #hardskills, which involve technical proficiency in the field that they are hired for. The employability for #graduatingengineers is ~64%, for #MBAs it is ~71% [This again shows why students are focusing on these 2 fields].
