As an educator, you are often the first connection aspiring engineers will have with the profession. The information you provide and the way you speak about the engineering profession set a tone that lasts with students for many years. Across hundreds of disciplines and specialties, engineers play a critical role in our society, from designing groundbreaking innovations to driving the solutions to the biggest challenges our society faces. Like many integral professions that are dedicated to serving the public, engineering is a licensed profession. The education provided to an engineering graduate is a foundational stepping stone from which they can move forward and become a fully licensed engineer. You can help set students on a path where their engineering education makes a real difference in the lives of Canadians and others across the world. This includes helping students to understand more about licensure, its value as a professional, and when it’s required. Just as you would encourage students to fully understand and engage with their coursework, you can inspire your students to really explore what the profession has to offer for graduates who pursue licensure after school. Today's #StudentShoutout is Samuel Olabode Afolabi, interdisciplinary engineering PhD student! Samuel's research focuses on advancing superalloys and direct energy deposition which requires collaborate with experts in materials, aerospace and mechanical engineering. He is also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). "Being a NSBE member provides me an invaluable network of support and resources for me; it has offered mentorship opportunities and professional connections that have advanced my career." As a PhD student in multidisciplinary engineering at Texas A&M University, my experience so far has being diverse and challenging. I integrate knowledge from mechanical, materials and industrial engineering disciplines to tackle complex advanced manufacturing problems."

It is a pleasure for me to have embarked to my academic career advancement, pursuing a Master of Science in Power Systems Engineering at Makerere University.

Exactly an year ago, students from Mechanical, Aerospace and Chemical Engineering branches came together to launch "Rocketry" - BMSCE's Official Student Rocket Club. Since then, we've been pushing our limits to achieve our end goal.🚀  As dedicated rocket enthusiasts, we're here to spark curiosity, drive innovation, and explore the endless possibilities of space. We are on a mission to achieve a set of objectives which include 1. Facilitate hands-on experience in designing, building, and launching rockets. 2. Engage in real-world projects that involve designing, building and launching rockets. This includes participation in rocketry competitions or collaborative projects. 3. Study earth’s atmosphere, carry climate and environmental research using Sounding rockets.  4. Promote creativity and innovation in rocket design and propulsion systems. 5. Conducting experimental research to develop critical technologies. We invite people of all backgrounds and disciplines to join us on this exciting journey, which we are just getting started on.
