Osita Oparaugo, Esq.: GetBundi Education Technology Will Empower African Youths With Digital Skills Osita Oparaugo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, GetBundi, an Educational Technology Company dedicated to #STEM and Digital Skills learning, in this interview discussed his role in addressing Africa’s youth unemployment by empowering African youths to lead and commercialize innovation. Excerpts: Can you tell us about your background? I am a lawyer by profession. I studied law at The University of Buckingham United Kingdom and subsequently called to the Nigerian bar. I have been in the tech space since 2014 from Footprint to Africa (media and Investments Company) to Ogelle, Africa’s first user generated video sharing platform and now GetBundi Education Technology for STEM and Digital Skills. What motivated and inspired you to establish GetBundi? Working across Africa as a commercial lawyer supporting foreign direct investment, I noticed the many challenges facing Africa including high unemployment rate among the youths, and at each time I analysed the problems, the answer brings me back to one solution, creating platform for the youths, to understand and appreciate science technology and innovation (STI) studies. An edtech platform that will help the youths acquire and commercialize digital skills. Acquiring digital skills is crucial for African youths today as it opens opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and global connectivity in an increasingly digital world. **INTERNATIONAL EDUCATORS SUMMIT 2024: Reimagining Education for the Future We Seek** I had the privilege of participating in the inaugural International Educators Summit (IES 2024) held in Accra, Ghana from July 5th to 7th. This groundbreaking event, organized by Ghana ASCD, brought together educators from around the world to engage in meaningful dialogue about the challenges facing education today and to explore innovative frontiers in educational technology, particularly in the context of Generative AI. **Key Takeaways from Today's Sessions:** 1. **Meta-Strategic Thinking**: As educators, our role extends beyond imparting knowledge. We must empower students to think meta-strategically—equipping them with the skills to analyze, adapt, and thrive in an ever-evolving world. 2. **Embracing Productive Struggle**: Rather than shielding students from challenges, we should emphasize that productive struggle is essential for growth. It is through overcoming obstacles that true learning occurs. 3. **Education with Purpose**: Beyond mere knowledge acquisition, we need an education system that actively addresses socio-economic issues. Our goal should be to equip students with the tools to create positive change in their communities and beyond. The IES 2024 has ignited a collective commitment to reimagining education—a shared vision that transcends borders and empowers us to shape a brighter future for Africa and the world. #IES2024 #GhanaASCD #LotusEducationalCentre

🌍 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐈 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝟏𝟓% 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 💡 This question concluded the RECI Education Forum 2024, with Paeradigms and 60 participants from nearly 20 countries, including Nepal, Haiti, Uganda, Moldova, Benín, Albania, and Switzerland. The forum focused on educational gaps challenging Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). Participants were asked: "What can you do tomorrow morning, very concretely, assuming each of us has a 15% chance of having an impact?", inspiring these responses: • 🌍 Introduce mother tongue education to preserve cultural and language diversity. • ✨ Follow Gandhi's advice to "be the change," starting with changing personal attitudes and patriarchal frameworks. • 🌐 Network more to leverage the strengths and advantages of others. • ♿ Make training and events accessible to diverse rights holders. • 📢 Engage in continuous advocacy for sustainable educational funding. 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 🌟 A particularly interesting aspect of the forum was the use of the "open space" methodology to manage the event. "Open Space" lets participants create and manage the agenda themselves, taking ownership and collaborating for solutions. This approach has potential as a tool that could support the solutions discussed today, supporting the shift in educational structures and frameworks (such as flexible pathways) that were discussed in the forum. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 🙌 Paeradigms Project Manager Jéssica Jossias, who joined the forum from Mozambique, was enthusiastic. She remarked, "It gives participants the chance to raise relevant topics, ensuring inclusivity and diversity. It removes pressure and validates all contributions. It’s straight to the point and improves timekeeping and knowledge sharing." 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 📚 The RECI Education Forum 2024 showcased the potential of the open space methodology to transform events and support shifts in educational structures.
