🌾 The Future of Agriculture in Indonesia is at Stake! 🌾 Did you know that every year, 100,000 hectares of fertile land in Indonesia are converted into housing and factories? This alarming trend leaves only 13.9% of the country’s land fertile, ranking Indonesia 166th in the world for fertile land availability (Source: CNBC Indonesia). 📉 Moreover, we lose 1 million farmers annually, with 97% of farmers' children unwilling to follow in their footsteps (Source: CNBC Indonesia). 🚜 Why is this happening? Here are some of the challenges: 1. Low Earnings 💰 2. Market Volatility 📉 3. Low Social Status 👥 4. Large Investment 💸 5. Slow Tech Adoption 🛠️ As Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, Independent Commissioner at ID FOOD, highlights, "Many people don't want to be farmers; they want to be employees of BUMN. This is a big problem for us because human resources are decreasing over time." But is there still hope? 💡 We believe there is. 🌱 Comment below with your best solutions! Let's work together to transform and revitalize Indonesia's agriculture sector. 🚜💪 #Agriculture #Indonesia #SustainableFarming #Agritech #FutureOfFarming #XpandEast

In Indonesia, around 85% of the raw ingredients used to make animal feed are imported, which raises expenses and has a big effect on the environment. Ikanesia Nusantara Akuamarin, a green manufacturing firm that was chosen as one of the organizations in CCE 3.0, is taking on this challenge head-on in response. With over 10 years of experience, Ikanesia has successfully sold more than 70,000 pallets of their products and helped over 25,000 fish hobbyists reduce their carbon footprint. Through close collaboration with the #communities surrounding its processing facilities, Ikanesia teaches residents how to gather trash from fish, rice, and corn and turn it into usable raw materials. They create high-nutrition animal feed while cutting #waste and strengthening local communities by using insects as a covert nutrient enhancer to further improve feed quality. But Ikanesia’s impact goes beyond feed production. From improving fish nutrition and empowering women entrepreneurs to hosting stunting prevention programs in Bekasi in #collaboration with universities and local governments, their initiatives span environmental, social, and economic contributions. Curious to learn more about Ikanesia’s journey and inspiring profile? Watch their full story on YouTube link in the comments below!

#CaturAdhimukti facilitated a comprehensive #businessplanning workshop for four #coffeecooperatives at #PLUTKUKM, Bandung Regency, under the #GIZ #SASCI+ program on 26-27 October'24. This effort is part of a broader mission to empower #localcoffeefarmers, strengthening their organizational capacities and guiding them toward more sustainable and profitable business. West Java's #JavaPreanger Region is well recognized as one of Indonesia's leading coffee-producing regions, serving specialty and retail markets both domestically and internationally. However, agricultural products like coffee, cocoa, and natural rubber are more than just financial assets—they are a livelihood for millions of smallholders in Indonesia. They provide a foundation for #ruraldevelopment but come with complex ecological, economic, and social challenges. Smallholder farmers face unpredictable weather patterns, fluctuating market prices, and limited access to advanced farming methods. Without the right support, these smallholder farmers remain vulnerable. #SASCI+ "Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains in Indonesia" is stepping in with targeted, holistic support. This program is committed to assisting 1,000 coffee farmers in West Java, focusing on increasing yields, enhancing resilience to #climatechange, and promoting sustainable, #deforestationfree practices. The goal is not only to increase incomes but also to address the gap between existing earnings and a true living income. Just as importantly, SASCI+ promotes #gendersensitive sustainability concepts to the organization of farmer cooperatives, ensuring that these communities are both economically empowered and socially inclusive. This workshop represents a critical link in this chain, equipping #cooperatives to develop clear, actionable #businessplans that align with #sustainable practices. This training reflects a shared vision—where coffee farming contributes to economic resilience, #socialequity, and #environmentalsustainability. Initiatives like these highlight the value of investing in local #capacitybuilding, as they foster a self-sustaining agricultural ecosystem capable of adapting to both market demands and climate challenges. Through collaborative efforts, we can create a thriving, sustainable future for West Java’s coffee-growing cooperative of smallholder farmers.

As we honor Indonesia’s #IndependenceDay, it’s a timely moment to reflect on what independence truly means, particularly for our #agriculture sector. Central to the Government’s mission of food security and economic growth, agriculture grew by 1.46% (yoy) in Q3 2023, contributing 13.57% to the nation’s GDP—an achievement that wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the hardworking producers who tirelessly safeguard national food security. (Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, 2024). Looking ahead, the agriculture sector remains a key driver of national economic growth. At Koltiva, we believe true independence also comes from equipping producers with the support to excel. It’s about empowering them to navigate global challenges—shifting market dynamics or #climatechange. As a global company with deep Indonesian roots, since 2013, we’ve supported businesses to build sustainable, #traceable #supplychains in their projects across 26 provinces of Indonesia and 7 key commodities—cocoa, rubber, palm oil, coffee, seaweed, dairy, and cassia. Our commitment to empowering smallholder producers is driven by innovative technology and inclusive access through one-stop solutions for producers, #KoltiTrace #FarmCloud application. This platform offers comprehensive support and access that includes: 🌐 Access to Knowledge: Equipped with e-learning features, allows producers to easily access Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training and a module to guide them in tending their land using #sustainable practices. Additionally, our expert agronomist and Boots-on-the-Ground team provides personalized coaching, guiding producers in adopting sustainable practices that benefit their livelihoods and the environment. 🌱 Access to Agri-Inputs: Offers a streamlined platform for purchasing high-quality agri-inputs, including a “pay later” option. This ensures that producers can effectively tend to their crops and maximize yields. 💰 Access to Finance: We promote financial literacy and inclusivity by offering access to a closed-loop financial system, enabling stability and growth for smallholder producers. 🛒 Access to Sustainable Markets: We ensure that producers are connected to sustainable markets by linking them directly with traders via KoltiTrace FarmCloud and providing real-time pricing updates to keep them competitive and informed. By equipping producers with these essential tools and support, we’re not only fostering economic progress but also honoring the true spirit of independence that drives our nation forward. Happy Independence Day!

For years, the idea of reconsolidating government agencies under one roof has held promise, offering the potential for smoother execution and reduced friction between ideas. Since its inception in 1905, the Department of Agriculture in Malaysia has undergone various transformations to address specific agendas. This evolution has led to the establishment of specialized agencies such as the Rubber Research Institutes Malaysia (RRIM) in 1926, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) in 1965, the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) in 1970, and the Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang (LPP) in 1973. These splinter agencies reflect the ongoing efforts to streamline focus and enhance effectiveness within the agricultural sector. However, while it's a dream worth pursuing, the practicalities often prove more complex than initially imagined. Optimism is crucial, yet it's essential to balance it with pragmatic expectations grounded in both logical reasoning and timeframes, all while considering current trends. #MalaysiaAgricultureBloopAndFlop #WeCreateChemistry #FoodSecurityMalaysiaAtStake #BackToBasic

Sharing the Pagyabong ng Yamang Ani: Digital Impact Story of my Ateneo Development Studies Students for SY 2023-2024. The "Pagyabong ng Yamang Ani" is a solidarity service-learning project spearheaded by Team KaAni. It aims to revitalize agricultural entrepreneurship among Antipolo farmers in partnership with four farming organizations from Barangay Calawis and Barangay San Jose, Antipolo, Rizal. The collaborating organizations comprise Calawis Punlaang Bayan, Inc. (CPBI), Marikina Watershed Kaysakat Association Inc. (MARIWSKA), San Jose Free Farmers Association of Antipolo, Inc. (SJFFAAI), and Tulungan Sa Kabuhayan ng Calawis, Inc. (TSKC). These four groups are under the Department of Agriculture’s Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) Program. The project confronts the pressing issue of farming's lack of viability as a regular livelihood, often leading to reduced interest in agriculture and a consequent shift towards other vocations. The ultimate ambition of "Pagyabong ng Yamang Ani" is to facilitate a transformative journey for these organizations, positioning them to autonomously generate value-added products and navigate the market, redefining farming as a dignified and sustainable pursuit for their community members. #ServiceLearning #CommunityDevelopment #SustainableDevelopment #ProjectManagement #AgriEnterprise #Agriculture #Farmers
