We're excited to be collaborating with Hydroalp to accelerate the deployment of FishSafe™ turbines across the world! Through rigorous testing and refinement, Natel has achieved through-turbine fish passage survival rates of 98-100% across multiple fish species and life stages with FishSafe™ runner designs. These runners have demonstrated safe fish passage even while maintaining high hydraulic efficiency and operating at conventional blade speeds (up to 28.2 m/s, or 63.1 mph). In partnership with leading turbine manufacturers like Hydroalp, Natel designs turbines to upgrade existing hydropower plants and develop new, sustainable projects worldwide. Working with our partners, we can create FishSafe™ runner designs with competitive rotational speeds and efficiency metrics for turbines of any configuration at sites up to 40 meters (130 feet) in head. A cornerstone of the global energy supply, hydropower is the third largest source of electricity and a critical building block of a reliable carbon-free grid. Replacing equipment at existing hydropower plants with FishSafe™ turbines can help the industry strengthen this crucial renewable energy source while also helping to fight biodiversity loss. In-place replacements of aging equipment can both increase energy production and ensure safe downstream fish passage—reestablishing plant lifetime while improving environmental baselines. #withhydropower #renewableenergy #waterpower #fishsafe #hydropower #turbine
[National Hydropower Day, August 24, 2024] On #HydroDay, we celebrate hydropower’s contributions to the U.S. electricity grid! By providing clean, reliable energy to roughly 30 million Americans, #hydropower is our clean energy future. National Hydropower Day is a special occasion to recognize the vital role that hydropower plays in the U.S. and around the world. As the largest source of renewable energy, hydropower is essential for reducing carbon emissions and ensuring a sustainable energy future. At Hydroalp, we’re dedicated to advancing hydropower technologies that not only generate clean energy but also protect and preserve our natural environments. Our work in developing high-efficiency turbines and customized solutions is focused on maximizing energy output while minimizing environmental impact. That's why we're proud to collaborate with Natel Energy to enhance the environmental performance of hydropower. Natel Energy's innovative FishSafe™ Restoration Hydro Turbine (RHT) designs provide safe passage for fish and other aquatic organisms, addressing the environmental concerns often associated with traditional hydropower. Together with Natel Energy, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in hydropower - delivering solutions that meet the demands of both energy production and environmental care. Let’s continue to innovate and collaborate in the hydropower sector to ensure that our renewable energy solutions are both powerful and environmentally responsible. www.hydroalp.com | sales@hydroalp.com National Hydropower Association | #HydroPowers #waterpower #nationalhydropowerday #hydroalp #natel #fishsafe #renewables

Great to represent the European Hydropower Alliance at the ETIP HYDROPOWER event this morning. I made the following points on the key contribution of #hydropower to the #energy transition: ⚡ Carbon free renewable electricity: #hydropower represents 13% of the EU's electricity and 1/3rd of the EU #renewable electricity. Can't do without it! 🤸♂️ Flexibility: hydro dams and pumped hydro storage can deliver #electricity and system services in minutes and even seconds. This is key for a resilient #powergrid 〰 Storage: hydropower represents 95% of the total electricity #storage in the EU! The development of #solar power leads to very high requirements for daily storage, while #wind increases the need for monthly/seasonal storage. Pumped storage and reservoirs meet these system needs for security of supply. 💧 Development potential: #repowering of existing plants and hydro pumped storage new build can help deliver a decarbonized power system. In France only there is a potential of 5GW to be tapped. 🌎 And it's not only about electricity: hydropower supports water management in case of droughts, and it helps prevent floods downstream. It's also about #communities, and local economic development, preserving #biodiversity and #sustainability. 🏗 Hydropower is also an EU based #industry, with strong EU value chains and export capacities. This needs to be maintained and developed, that's why it was key to have hydropower as an integral part of the #NZIA. Hydropower contributes to the EU #competitiveness by delivering clean, secure and dispatchable electricity, further enabling #electrification of uses. The EU Hydropower Alliance supports the need for further stakeholder engagement together with the European Commission to build an effective EU hydropower strategy.
