📢 Meet the FLAGCHIP consortium partners! 📢 Today we introduce you to our partner – SuperGrid Institute, an independent innovation and research company with expertise in high and medium voltage direct current (HVDC and MVDC) systems and technologies – key components for the future system of power transmission. They provide their customers and partners with strong technological innovations to accelerate the development of future power grids and the massive integration of renewable energy. SuperGrid has developed AC power cycling test-bench to gain a better comprehension of degradation mechanisms. The results of FLAGCHIP will also improve the Condition Health Monitoring (CHM) solutions. SuperGrid is also currently developing a bidirectional DC/DC converter under the Horizon project FOR2ENSICS on which a pilot will be based. This pilot will be used by FLAGCHIP in order to demonstrate the practical aspect of FLAGCHIP’s prototypes. It will represent conditions for MVDC converters and their system. In fact, the pilot will test real-time condition monitoring and validate the new modules developed within the project by estimating the temperature based on TSEP and using non-conventional health monitoring methods and Limp mode strategies.   For more information, please visit SuperGrid Institute website: https://lnkd.in/dWPAv3Sh Get to know the SuperGrid Institute team and stay tuned for more updates on #PowerElectronics! #flagchip-project #HorizonEurope #HitachiEnergy #PowerElectronics #Semiconductors #PowerModules #windfarm #converter #MOSFET SuperGrid Institute CIRCE - Centro Tecnológico INSA Lyon - Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon Centrale Lyon CNRS University of Nottingham Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Kempten Cyprus University of Technology mqSemi SINTEF Mitsubishi Electric Hitachi Energy Q-PLAN INTERNATIONAL

  • Things are taking shape on the OPHELIA project's ViaSolaire! The photovoltaic pannels are currently being installed on the 6 canopy frames ☀️ Each frame supports 6 photovoltaic pannels in width and 45 modules in length. The park will therefore be comprised of 1,620 pannels of 615 Wp, giving a total output of 996 kWp ⚡   OPHELIA's objectives meet a twofold ambition for the photovoltaic industry: 🔵 to make the most of linear land parcels situated alongside existing infrastructures 🔵 to reduce electrical losses, which is a problem when transporting electricity via very long cables, by developing technological building blocks that make it possible to replace alternating current with medium-voltage direct current ‘MVDC’.   If you want to follow the progress of this exciting project, the first solar canopy demonstrator for linear photovoltaic power plants in France, follow the LinkedIn page! #SolarPower #MVDC #innovation #energy

  • Are supergrids the future for clean, cheap energy? ⚡ Europe seems to think so! Speaking at the world economic forum recently, Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU supergrid is at the heart of the European Commission’s plan to provide cleaner 🌱 and cheaper 💸 energy for all Europeans! 🎉 Here at SuperGrid Institute, we’ve long been convinced of the advantages a wide-scale interconnected supergrid… so convinced in fact, that we named our company after it! 😉 🤔 Wait…what is a supergrid again? A supergrid is a superimposed DC transmission network that connects AC networks & renewable energy resources 🌬️🌞🌊 using high voltage direct current (HVDC) ⚡ which enables the transport of large volumes of electricity over long distances with reduced losses. This long-distance transmission makes it possible to balance the network ⚖️, contribute to its stability, and enables interconnections between countries. 🔌 This makes it easier to manage the intermittent nature of renewable energy whilst ensuring stability and security within the network! 🤩 For over a decade, we’ve been working on developing the technologies and systems that will allow our partners and clients to make the supergrid a reality: 🔵 Integrating renewable energy sources like wind and solar 🔵 Working on interoperability, flexibility and storage so we can share energy between countries 🔵 Developing breakthrough equipment capable of dealing with high voltage direct current (HVDC – the type of power used in a supergrid) 🔵 Defining standards and frameworks to pave the way for this new energy ecosystem And that’s just some of what we know how to do! Want to know more about supergrids? Make sure to follow us on LinkedIn (we talk about them a lot 😉) #supergrid #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Europe

Last Friday we had the privilege of presenting on the panel 'High Voltage Direct Current - needs and innovation gaps' at the workshop 'Direct current technologies: a game-changer for the energy transition' organised by the hashtag #SETPlan Implementation Working Group on HVDC. This event brought together policymakers, power system operators, industry leaders in direct current technology, and the research community to discuss the future of HVDC infrastructure. A key focus of the discussion was this critical question: 💡𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘏𝘝𝘋𝘊 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭? The #DCforEU project supports the Implementation Working Group on DC Technologies in defining the Agenda for EC support of DC technologies targeted at realising the energy transition, efficiently and cheaply. Interoperability is core to the creation oof a resilient grid and through the #InterOPERA project, we are paving the way for the first multi-terminal, multi-vendor HVDC grid. Our aim is to demonstrate how HVDC components from different vendors can seamlessly work together within a coordinated grid. This breakthrough in interoperability will: 🔹enable diverse onshore connections across countries, 🔹unlock new market opportunities, 🔹reduce congestion in existing onshore transmission systems, and 🔹minimise the need for additional onshore electrical infrastructure Together, we're building the foundation for a more interconnected and efficient European energy system! ⚡ #DCforEU John Nicholas Morris Moore
