Why do most meeting actions fall through? In nearly every team meeting, ideas are shared, commitments are made, and tasks are assigned. But here’s the catch: most of them don’t get done. I’ve seen it over and over—someone volunteers to help, or I commit to a task, and then… nothing happens. Words float through the air and disappear, leaving no action behind. The solution? Use the “Who, What, When” rule. Every time something is assigned, clarify who’s responsible, what exactly needs to be done, and when it’s due. This isn’t just for accountability—it keeps things moving forward. Here’s what I’ve found: by focusing on these three simple questions, people are far less likely to forget, and projects actually get completed. Try it in your next meeting—assign one task using Who, What, When, and see the difference. Stop letting good ideas vanish. Make them happen.

Yesterday, I talked about identifying skills gaps within your team—so naturally, the next step is addressing these gaps to propel your agency forward. Here are actionable strategies to turn those gaps into growth opportunities: 1. Tailored Training Programs: Create or invest in training programs specifically designed to address the identified skills gaps. Whether it's online courses, workshops, or seminars, ensure the training is relevant and actionable. Remember, one size does not fit all, so personalize learning paths for maximum impact. 2. Mentorship and Coaching: Pair team members who have strengths in certain areas with those looking to develop those skills. This not only enhances skills but also promotes a culture of continuous learning and collaboration within your team. 3. Hire to Fill Major Gaps: Sometimes, the quickest way to bridge a significant skills gap is by bringing in new talent who already possesses the needed expertise. This can invigorate your team with fresh insights and capabilities, driving innovation and growth. Addressing skills gaps is not just about improving individual competencies; it's about strengthening your agency's foundation for long-term success. By investing in your team's development, you're setting your agency up for resilience, adaptability, and unparalleled success in a competitive landscape. How have you handled skills gaps on your team in the past? Leave a comment below and share what’s worked for you and your team.

The belief that successful board members can be defined by a fixed set of traits and behaviours is a myth. In reality, every board and each of its members operate in a unique context, with distinct challenges and opportunities. There is no one-size-fits-all set of traits or working methods that guarantee board effectiveness. However, research into board effectiveness has revealed a set of good practices that can serve as a framework for unlocking and developing board effectiveness. Feel free to contact me if you're looking for measurable results and want to learn about our BoardScan™ solution.

Productivity and well being unlocked through accountability, this is how... Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting our first ever Aida Accountability Club (AAC) meeting. The AAC is a new addition to the services I offer and include a monthly call to celebrate your wins and discuss the challenges you're facing to reach your goals. During the call, the energy was infectious, and the insights shared were profound YET beautifully simple. Here are a couple of key takeaways that could transform the way we approach productivity and self-imposed pressures: 1️⃣ The Power of a Mental Download: In our fast-paced lives, our minds often juggle multiple tasks and deadlines, leading to overwhelm. A simple yet effective strategy we explored is the 'mental download'. Taking a moment to write down everything on your mind can significantly reduce stress levels and bring clarity. From there, creating a prioritized action plan makes tackling tasks less daunting. It's about identifying what truly demands your attention versus what can wait. 2️⃣ Navigating Self-Pressure and Procrastination: Many of us are our own toughest critics, setting high expectations that lead to procrastination. The solution? ✅ Break down your goals into smaller, more manageable tasks. Sometimes, just starting with the smallest action, like opening your laptop, can set the momentum for productivity. The journey to achieving our goals should be enjoyable and sustainable, not a sprint that leaves us burnt out. The Aida Accountability Club's first call reinforced a vital message: simplicity in planning and kindness to oneself can unlock doors to not just productivity but also personal well-being. As we continue on this journey, let's remember that progress, no matter how incremental, is still progress. Keep moving, keep refining, and most importantly, keep enjoying the process. Keep that vision you've set for yourself in mind. By the way, the Accountability Club is open with your first month free. You only need to come with a plan, yours, or one we've created together. What's your next goal? #ProductivityTips #MentalWellbeing #GoalSetting #AidaAccountabilityClub #ProfessionalGrowth

Last offsite of the year done! Truly a privilege to watch this group grow from 20 to now almost 50 first line managers. As the number of new chapter leads grow so does our need to continuously support them and prepare them for success. Today's focus was about getting our leads ready for the upcoming calibrations, a storyline that started in Q1 of this year when we discussed the changes coming to our performance rating system. in Q2 we spent time doing fishbowls to simulate 1:1s between managers and engineers. In Q3 we talked about the challenges faced during rating season and calibrations. This triggered us to put our collective knowledge into a guide. And now in Q4 we test that guide with detailed use cases and mock calibrations. Through this deliberate practice we're able to prepare and practice for the real thing. We're able to leverage past learnings and experience to quickly build our collective intelligence. Being a people manager is always gonna be tricky and full of unknowns but when you introduce practices like this and connect them with a community of peers.. it's certainly a lot less scary. My energy is depleted, my social battery is gone and my feet are aching but I write this with a smile knowing that today we did something important. Thanks to everyone who contributed and made it happen! we did it!
