📢 We are happy to introduce our eRural resilience - Interreg BSR project partner from Lithuania - Vytautas Magnus University (Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas) which which is a full scale classical university with modern approaches to research and studies. 🍀 Bio-business and project partner Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy are related more tightly as we might think. „Only in Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy we focus our research on bio-business 🌾 and I as a project manager and researcher am very excited working at this project as my own research focuses on bio-business 🍃 and their development“ says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jolita Greblikaitė. Several years ago, the academy adopted new strategic development guidelines and gave chosen bioeconomy as priority of our research, studies and development. And especially we took very new turn in our structure creating the Faculty of Bioeconomy Development. And that is not all as we have chosen to create first-cycle study programme about bio-business management. Study programme is called 🏞 „Sustainable Bio-Business Management “. 📌 Cooperation with bio-business and Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture, theoretical expertise allows us to provide knowledge to our partners, to bio-business and share experience. 📌 Participation in knowledge hub allow partners to share knowledge and experiences among partners and among support groups in the frames of project. #eruralresilience #InterregBSR #bioeconomy

🌱 The BMBF funded programme INTERFACES and the four regional projects, COINS, DecLaRe, InfoRange and Minodu came together at the Tropentag Conference 2024 from 11 to 13 September in Vienna. Highlight was the pre-conference workshop organised by #INTERFACES. During the workshop, participants from the BMBF-funded regional projects on sustainable land management in Africa under the umbrella of FONA exchanged views on the different steps of knowledge co-creation and management in agriculture. One special aspect was deepened to give impulses for discussion: The African Knowledge Management for Agricultural Development (KM4AgD) system provided by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa - FARA -the apex continental organisation responsible for coordinating and advocating for agricultural research for development, including insights from three of this year’s participants. All projects and their activities are funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) as part of the platform strategy Research for Sustainability (FONA). Impactful outcomes: In July 2022, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) invited interested scientists from all Sub-Saharan African countries and researchers at all universities and research institutes in Germany to take part in a scientific exchange in the field of agricultural sciences with special emphasis on the sustainable intensification of agriculture. It followed a matchmaking process where a book of posters with ideas was compiled. By going through the posters, researchers on both sides could find fellow researchers with matching research interests. This somewhat random process led to very interesting matchups. An institution in Germany became interested in my “biochar as a sustainable agricultural soil amendment material”, and convinced other three German institutions and other six Sub-Saharan African research institutions to form a consortium. This year (April) we and other several consortia were invited to Bonn to present our ideas and see how we can work together on future research projects. What started as a random process has now become a strong German-East African research consortium under the acronym: green-COW, “Cascading use of agricultural, agro-industrial, and urban Organic Wastes” with the following partners: · Gulu University (Uganda). · Alliance-Bioversity-CIAT (Ethiopia). · Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (Germany). · Chuka University (Kenya). · The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (Tanzania). · Institut für Ländliche Strukturforschung (Germany). · Busitema University (Uganda). · Wollo University (Ethiopia). · Hochschule Geisenheim University (Germany). · Great Lakes University Kisumu (Kenya). #EquitablePartnerships #OrganicWastes #SustainablePartnerships

🎄 Holiday Research Spotlight Series 🎄 Today, we highlight Magnus Kamau Katana Lindhardt, whose research in agrivoltaics is paving the way for a future where sustainable agriculture and renewable energy go hand in hand. Kamau grew up in Copenhagen and Hundested, where his early interest in natural sciences was sparked by the sea and nature. After high school, he pursued a student position aboard the training ship Georg Stage, gaining invaluable skills and lifelong friendships. Back on shore, Kamau began a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources at the Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, specializing in plants. His academic journey took him to Brazil and Colombia, where he gained firsthand experience with tropical agriculture. These experiences deepened his understanding of how climate and culture shape agricultural systems and reconnected him with his Kenyan heritage. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Kamau pursued a master’s degree in Plant Sciences and Geoinformatics at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands. Returning to Denmark, Kamau worked at the Danish Agricultural Agency, focusing on satellite-based monitoring of farmland. However, he missed the hands-on connection with the land. Today, Kamau is pursuing a PhD at Aarhus Universitet as part of the EU-funded Value4Farm project, researching agrivoltaics—the combination of agriculture and solar energy. His work studies how vertical solar panels affect crop growth and quality, aiming to create multifunctional land use that produces both food and sustainable electricity. Read more about Kamau's journey and his vision for a sustainable future: https://lnkd.in/d_qYY9wS Stay tuned for more portraits of our brilliant researchers. #Agroecology #Research #ClimateChange #SustainableSolutions #PhD #HolidaySeason

🎄 Holiday Research Spotlight Series 🎄 Today, we highlight Aristotelis Azariadis, whose roots in Greece's rich agricultural traditions have driven him to address modern agricultural challenges through innovative research. Born and raised in Athens, Aristotelis was inspired by his family's agricultural heritage. He pursued his academic foundation at the Agricultural University of Athens, earning both bachelor's and master's degrees. His curiosity and passion for understanding plant science led him to a PhD program in Denmark at Aarhus Universitet. Aristotelis' PhD focused on domesticating wild plant species, particularly potatoes, using advanced genome editing techniques. His groundbreaking work aimed to transform these untamed species into viable agricultural crops, creating methodologies and protocols that can guide future research. Now at the Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, Aristotelis continues his work on domestication, focusing on grasses like barley. He aims to develop crops that can thrive in changing environmental conditions while meeting modern agricultural demands. Read more about Aristotelis' journey and his vision for a sustainable future: https://lnkd.in/dxDVMPhA Stay tuned for more portraits of our brilliant researchers. #Agroecology #Research #ClimateChange #SustainableSolutions #PhD #HolidaySeason
