📊 How Many Analysts Does Your Agency Need? Determining the right number of analysts is crucial for building an effective crime analysis unit. The International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA) offers key guidelines based on agency size, workload, and crime rates: 🔹 1 analyst per 1,500 UCR Part 1 crimes annually 🔹 1 analyst per 2,800 NIBRS Group A crimes annually 🔹 1 analyst per 30,000 calls for service annually 🔹 1 analyst per 70 sworn officers (only if staffing levels are adequate) 💡 What If You Don't Need a Full-Time Analyst? Even if the formula suggests less than one analyst, hiring at least one full-time analyst can provide continuity and build expertise. Alternatively, smaller agencies may assign crime analysis duties to other roles (e.g., records managers or officers) or collaborate regionally. Combining resources across jurisdictions allows smaller towns to share data effectively and operate like a larger agency. 🚀 My Advice: Tailor staffing to your agency's needs.
