🔥'Bharat Cell' a Gamechanger for India: Low cost and high Performance👍 #Olafounder #BhavishAggarwal said that his company has developed a cutting-edge #lithium #cellbattery named #BharatCell which may become a #gamechanger for the #Indian #ElectricMobility #ecosystem once it is launched. As per his explanation It will be the #5G of lithium cells. India, which largely imports lithium cell batteries, does not make any as of now. Batteries make up a significant part of the cost of manufacturing a unit electric vehicle. His electric mobility company #OlaElectric's mission statement is to make #India the #global #EVhub. "Bharat Cell" will find its use case in #vehicles, for #energystorage at home, besides going into #grid #energystorage. This (Bharat Cell) is five times more energy than this. And since one unit has five times the energy, the cost is lower. This has better fast #chargingcapability. #Chargingspeed is important in EVs It has less #cobalt, so the #cost is lower. #Energydensity is a very important paradigm in cells. Its energy density is 250 Watt hour per kg. This has 275 Watt hour per kg. So that means more energy in the same weight. Cost comes down, performance goes up. Important component of the Bharat cell battery is cathode-anode technology. But not the material which goes into making the cathode anode. The material comes from outside. Some from Japan, some from Korea, some from China, some from Europe. That also is the midstream where China leads today. So we will have a three, four, five-year journey to #localize it step by step. The Bharat Cell reportedly received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards(#BIS), which is a mandatory requirement before commercial production starts at its Ola #Gigafactory. The Indian government has formulated a research roadmap worth Rs 1150 crore to promote the development of electric vehicle (EV) technologies, with the aim of reducing vehicular pollution and achieving localisation of EV technologies within the next 5-7 years. The roadmap, prepared by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor, focuses on research opportunities in next-generation batteries, new materials, electric motors, magnets, semiconductors, and charging infrastructure. The goal is to reduce India's emission intensity by 45% by 2030 and achieve energy independence by 2047, ultimately reaching net-zero emissions by 2070. The budget is divided into two parts: Rs 669 crore for research and development (R&D) and Rs 482 crore for pilot programs to demonstrate laboratory successes. The roadmap identifies 24 high-priority and 10 moderate-priority research projects, addressing gaps in technology, project targets, deliverables, timelines, and the institutions capable of undertaking these projects. The Principal Scientific Advisor, Ajay Sood, emphasized the need for reducing import dependency in the EV sector by strengthening domestic R&D capabilities. Despite the government's ambitious target for EV penetration by 2030, current registration data shows that EVs make up only a small percentage of new vehicles, with the exception of 3-wheelers. Experts have expressed concerns about India's readiness for large-scale, sustainable EV expansion, highlighting the need for persistent and pervasive imports in the EV sector. The roadmap includes both high-risk research projects and areas where other countries have already achieved significant success, ensuring a foundation for future innovation. What an experience for us at MEINE Electric attending The Battery Show in Noida this year! A lot of insights, and I thought I’d share a few that stood out to me. 1️⃣ India’s Lithium-Ion Moment: The lithium-ion industry is not just emerging anymore—it's here. From manufacturers to equipment suppliers, the world has recognized that India is a serious player now. The entire supply chain is buzzing, and there’s massive business potential to be tapped into. 2️⃣ Sodium-Ion; Still Waiting: Despite the buzz, sodium-ion tech didn’t make a big splash at the show. With multiple companies working on it, I had expected to see much more progress. Maybe next year will be when the tech finally cracks? 3️⃣ Hydrogen Fuel Cells Fading: It’s surprising to see how quickly the fuel cell industry has slowed down in India. Just two years ago, these expos were packed with PEM fuel cell developers. This year? Almost no one. It feels like this chapter might be closing soon. 4️⃣ Imported Equipment Dominates: A huge part of India’s lithium-ion push still relies on imported high-tech equipment and complex materials. Foreign brands and Indian resellers had a strong presence, making me wonder—will India be able to step up and lead in this space as well? Would love to hear from others who attended or have thoughts on these trends. Always keen to learn more! 🔋 #MoveFastAndBuildThings #MEINEElectric #BatteryTech #LithiumIon #SodiumIon #FuelCells #IndiaInnovation #Sustainability

Last night, I had the opportunity to connect with thought leaders in technology and trade, including Axel Angeli, to discuss the evolving landscape of electronics, technology, and renewable energy. Our conversation spanned across decades, tracing back to the 90s, and highlighted innovations that are shaping the future. One significant insight from Axel was the promise of hydrogen and induction track technology. With successful implementation in places like Jeddaburg, Sweden, where Volvo and Renault trucks are utilizing these advancements, it's clear that the potential for hydrogen is vast. In India, Hyderabad is emerging as a key player in this tech shift, particularly in the production of batteries and fuel cells. We also dove into the history and progress of hydrogen research, drawing on projects like those by Linde with hydrogen-powered vehicles. While both hydrogen and battery tech offer compelling futures, we discussed the critical challenges ahead—especially infrastructure. The question remains: which technology will prevail in India’s energy evolution? There’s strong momentum through government programs, such as the Ujjwala scheme, to drive technology adoption, yet red tape continues to be an obstacle, preventing investments from fully reaching grassroots levels. Axel emphasized the value of public-private partnerships to bridge this gap, especially for innovators with transformative ideas but limited access to capital. #collaboration #partnerships #justtransition #futureofenergy
