🌊 Wrapping up #MMOAdria2024: EFCA led the coordination, teaming with European Maritime Safety Agency, Frontex, and national authorities from Croatia, Italy, and Slovenia. Here’s what we accomplished and learned! 🛡️ Key Operations: Joint Sea Patrols, anti-pollution drill, SAR exercise, and maritime law enforcement actions strengthened collaboration across the Adriatic Sea. 🏢 MMO Coordination Centre: Established at EFCA HQ, enabling smooth coordination with national experts and #EUAgencies. Result: Effective execution of joint patrols and operations. 🚨 Drills & Outcomes: Our Operational Patrol Vessel (#OPV) Ocean Sentinel engaged in an anti-pollution drill and SAR exercise, showcasing synergy between EU Agencies & Coastal State National Authorities dealing with Coast Guard Functions. Key lessons: Enhance MS involvement, staff exchanges, and operational coverage. 🔗 Concluding insights: MMO Adria 2024 was a step forward in reinforcing Coast Guard functions cooperation. Exercise #ObangameExpress2024 is in the books! 32 nations, 5,000 personnel, and 108 distinct exercise scenarios played out across West & Central Africa from May 6-17, 2024. Obangame Express, Africa’s premier maritime exercise, provides an opportunity for participating navies to improve communications, both ship to shore and between maritime operation centers (MOCs), through realistic training scenarios that build interoperability and enhance the maritime security environment. These efforts support a more secure, safe, and economically prosperous maritime environment. The exercise kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Cadet School of Libreville, May 6, as Gabonese Defense Minister Major General Brigitte Onkanowa, U.S. Ambassador to Gabon Vernelle Trim FitzPatrick, and Rear Adm. Michael Mattis, Director of Strategic Effects for U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF), ushered in the 13th iteration of West and Central Africa’s largest maritime exercise. “The Republic of Gabon and our African partners are the cornerstone of Obangame Express. This collaboration has been instrumental in strengthening maritime governance and security, crucial for the economic vitality of a region where over 90 percent of trade is conducted by sea,” said FitzPatrick. “Together, in our shared Atlantic Basin, we are tackling pressing challenges posed by malign actors, such as illegal fishing, piracy, and illicit trafficking, which threaten not only local economies but also global commerce, safety, and the marine environment.” After the exercise officially began, Obangame Express participants quickly got to work. From Cabo Verde and Senegal in the north, to Angola in the south, and everywhere in between (a coastline that stretches for thousands of nautical miles), partners and allies embarked on a robust program of land-based and at-sea events throughout a vast operating area. As the host nation, Gabon served as the primary hub for exercise command and control. Thailand's new proposed Panama-canal style east-west port aims to cut the Kra Isthmus in two by reportedly end of next year (2025). Dredging and other work purportedly already started on creating a dual entry single port linking Pacific to Indian Oceans. Probably won't bode well with India's massive Naval expansion up and down the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, or Indonesia's similar expansion on southern Borneo. Meanwhile, wonder what Malaysia and/or Singapore might make of this newest regional maritime shift? UNCLOS? RAN/USN and other Navies transit rights etc?

Trans-Regional Intelligence Group (TRIG+) brings together 🇦🇷🇧🇷🇬🇭🇬🇾🇯🇲🇸🇳🇺🇾🇪🇺 On 24 October 2024, SEACOP organised another session of the TRIG+, this time using a different dynamic methodology by establishing a working table between countries on both sides of the Atlantic on specific issues. "This new methodology aims to comprehensively analyse the different threats found along the Atlantic route, and new countries such as #Guyana and #Jamaica have joined to add new capabilities to this Atlantic think tank," explained #SEACOP Project Director Dominique Bucas. In addition to these two new members, the America-Africa Transregional Intelligence Group was attended by Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, Senegal, Uruguay Frontex, Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (Narcotics) - MAOC (N) and EMPACT HCRN. The event was inaugurated by the Ministry of Security of the Nation of Argentina and moderated by the Prefectura Naval Argentina. 🗣️ Discussions included a SWOT analysis on RO-RO vessels, used by criminal organisations to send CHC from the Americas to #Europe as well as synthetic drugs from Europe to the Americas. 💡 The TRIG was initiated back in 2022 by SEACOP V with the objective of boosting information exchange among countries along the Atlantic route. Despite advancements in technology, combating this issue remains difficult. A unified and proactive approach is essential for effective inland water security. The region has seen a rise in sophisticated pirate operations, characterized by swift, intelligence-driven attacks. To tackle piracy effectively, regional states must enhance cooperation, strengthen legal frameworks, and address the socio-economic factors that fuel these crimes. 🌍 Coast Guard Cooperation at Its Best – Live from Bruges! 🚢 Today, we proudly host a hybrid meeting in Bruges to spotlight the Coast Guard Exchange Programme, wrapping up its 1st period of implementation with our Executive Director. 🔑 Key highlights: Since early 2024, this programme, coordinated by EFCA with the European Maritime Safety Agency and Frontex, has facilitated cross-border exchanges across 10 countries. 128 places for participants, covering all Coast Guard Functions, sea, and air activities. Incredible engagement: 200+ nominations from 12 Member States & Iceland! 📚 Capacity Building in Action: 72 Points of Contact from 20 countries, representing 60 Coast Guard authorities, have driven this initiative forward. 🔎 What’s next?
