🚢 🇹🇭 On 17–18 December, the @Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Centre conducted a table-top exercise (TTX) focused on practising the Concept of Operations for law enforcement responses at sea. Using the #IORIS platform, participants collaborated to build a common maritime operational picture, improving their ability to respond to complex scenarios such as Search and Rescue (SAR), oil spill management, countering smuggling, and monitoring a Vessel of Interest (VOI). The exercise brought together representatives from six key THAI-MECC partner agencies: - Department of Fisheries - Marine Department - Royal Thai Navy - Department of Marine and Coastal Resources - Marine Police - Customs Department By using IORIS for the exercise, participants enhanced coordination and operational efficiency, demonstrating the platform’s vital role in supporting maritime law enforcement efforts. Bravo Zulu THAI-MECC! As maritime challenges continue to evolve, it is crucial to use integrated tools like IORIS for effective, real-time collaboration. We encourage all agencies to adopt IORIS to strengthen their operational capabilities and better protect national interests at sea. #IORIS #MaritimeSecurity #TTX #Thailand #LawEnforcement #SearchAndRescue #OilSpillResponse #SmugglingPrevention #VesselMonitoring #RegionalSecurity #CollaborationInAction Martin Cauchi Inglott Dave Nattrass Maryam Kidere Gladys Kiprono Rumes Shyaman Andrew Lyttle kenneth neijnes Bjorn Beirens Alexandru Chiric Greg Clifford Dr Navi Ramgolam Elie El Sayah Laetitia de Tarlé Patrick Rakotondravao Diego Ron Marianne Peron-Doise

⚓🌍 Year in Review: Monthly Highlights January 2024 - Navigating Crisis: Strengthening Maritime Security and Crisis Management in Djibouti The maritime sector is constantly exposed to various crises, whether related to cybersecurity, piracy incidents, accidents (such as collisions or oil spills), or fatalities. Regardless of the nature of the challenge, responding effectively with a trained and responsive team is essential to minimising damage. Equally important is how you communicate, both internally and externally, as this can significantly shape your organisation's reputation. Emerging successfully from a crisis requires careful planning, frequent rehearsals, and strong backing from leadership at all levels. These key themes were addressed in a five-day workshop held in Djibouti from 14–18 January 2024 CRIMARIO organised in collaboration with the Regional Maritime Training Centre of Djibouti (CRFM/DRTC). The seminar took place at a time when the region was facing major disruptions to maritime traffic along the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a crucial shipping route connecting the #RedSea and the #GulfofAden. Since December 2023, this strategic corridor has experienced increasing instability, highlighting the urgent need for robust crisis management systems. The seminar brought together national and international experts to share best practices in maritime crisis management. The event featured a series of presentations and interactive workshops, covering topics such as crisis prevention, emergency management at sea, international coordination, and the vital role of maritime authorities in these situations. In addition, experts shared their own experiences, detailing measures taken to enhance maritime security and safety in Djibouti. Case studies were presented, focusing on the specific challenges faced by Djibouti due to its pivotal position as a maritime hub in the #HornOfAfrica. Although the situation in the Horn of Africa remains complex, the workshop has laid important groundwork for better coordination and preparedness, helping ensure that the region is more resilient in the face of evolving maritime threats. CRIMARIO has continued cooperation and training with partner agencies in the region has followed for the entire 2024, as readiness is crucial in managing crises and maintaining the security of one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors.
