Finals of the EU Sparks for Climate - the first European Citizens' Hackathon Championship The first phase of EU Sparks, the national/regional online hackathons across Europe has been completed. It brought together 75 teams from 22 Member States and 7 associated countries. More than 300 young people, students, researchers, innovators and citizens worked together in 14 events to use research results and available knowledge to improve their lives and help their communities to adapt to and mitigate climate change. This ends a six-month journey of innovation and co-creation, demonstrating the power of citizen engagement and knowledge valorisation. It has been made possible with the support of universities, research organisations, city councils and other institutions across Europe acting as local organisers, and more than 100 experts as mentors helping the teams to develop their ideas and as jury members giving feedback and advice and selecting the best teams to move on to the final. Teams will present their solutions to a jury panel of high level experts that will meet in Brussels. Whether you're an environmental activist, seasoned coder, or just passionate about sustainability, this event is for you. Let's work together to make a positive impact on our planet! Climate Hack is a unique experiential learning opportunity for UEA students, graduates, staff, and externals interested in climate action, innovation, and enterprise. We facilitate the connection of passionate people, allowing them to collaborate on finding innovative solutions to global issues through our hackathon. This event will bring UEA students and staff together with individuals from the wider community to discuss how to tackle global issues via sustainable and financially viable solutions. We aim to provide an intensive and challenging, but enjoyable experience. Our June 2024 Hackathon will run over 10 hours and participants will focus on how to create real solutions to tackle climate change. Teams will be required to create, research, and build a minimum viable product of their idea, which tackles the challenge. Ideas must be creative, sustainable, and financially viable solutions. At the end, each team must present their idea to a panel of industry experts and entrepreneurs and one team will be announced as the winner of Climate Hack. 👉🏼 Don’t miss the final of EU Sparks for Climate - the first European Citizens' Hackathon Championship The final of 🇪🇺 EU Sparks for Climate – the European competition of joint teams of citizens and researchers building solutions for climate adaptation and mitigation – is coming up. The event will take place on 10 and 11 October, where the three winning teams of the European Citizens’ Hackathon Championship will be selected. Over the past 6 months, EU Sparks for Climate brought together more than 300 young people, students, researchers, innovators, and engaged citizens across 14 events. A total of 74 teams from 22 EU Member States and 7 Horizon Europe Associated Countries came together to turn research and knowledge into practical solutions for tackling climate change in their communities helping to achieve the objectives of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. On 10 October the winning teams from the local hackathons will have the opportunity to present their solutions to a broad audience. Citizens, researchers, innovators, policy makers, local authorities, entrepreneurs, investors and other stakeholders will have the chance to engage with the teams and learn more about their projects and how they will help address climate change. Experts from the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities will join the discussion and explore how the developed innovation solutions support the objectives of these Missions. On 11 October the teams will showcase their solutions online to a jury panel of high-level experts gathered in Brussels to select the three teams that will become the European Citizens Hackathon Champions!
