📅 A few months ago, I took part in the EU Sparks for Climate #hackathon, trying to find a solution for the city of Milan's adaptation to #ClimateChange. 🌊 It was my first hackathon and with my teammates we formed "The Nettuniani", to fight against #flood using the power of #AI and #IoT. We won all the rounds and in the end, our solution was declared to be the best in the Climate Change #Adaptation category. ❓ If you are curious about our solution, but also about the hackathon in general (is it an effective methodology? Is it a good tool to engage citizens?) on the 4th of December (13:30 -15:30 CET) my teammate Gustavo and I will talk about our experience and The Nettuniani solution during the Climate Adapt webinar on stakeholders and citizen engagement. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dVQuN-b3 . #EU #EUMissions #EUProject Monica Salvia Martina Carrieri Cristian Longhitano Agnese Bavuso Marone Carlien Donkor

✨ The European Commission launched this project to support new approaches to knowledge valorisation with greater involvement of citizens in addressing societal challenges and informing policies. Its objectives have been threefold: 1️⃣ Showcase the role of research in delivering solutions for society and creating market opportunities and prospects for start-ups 2️⃣ Address policy objectives for climate mitigation and adaptation, supporting the EU Missions to engage citizens in solutions for climate 3️⃣ Provide a tool and a methodology for similar initiatives in the future that can be taken up at any level (EU, national, local) and in any policy field Stay tuned to discover the journey of the most promising solutions of the first European Citizens’ Hackathon Championship. It has been such a great experience to be a member of a Jury in the final of EU Sparks for Climate Citizens Hackathon Championship 2024 organised by the European Commission. I am very much impressed by the level of the proposals and I want to congratulate the winning teams: Allium (Poland) who developed fully biodegradable packaging material made from biowaste design to replace plastic and increase food safety; The Nettuniani who proposed solution that leverages predictive AI-IoT driven and real-time monitoring of surface and groundwater networks for flood preparedness and adaptation in line with EU smart city goals; and enthusiastic young team deICE who want to reduce costs of e-mobility and develop standards for micro e-vehicles batteries. I also want to thank my fantastic fellow jurors for being so open-minded and energetic, and the Commission for an excellent organisation of the event! Special thanks to Karim SELOUANE, PhD, my colleague from the Mission Board, currently managing the entire climate change adaptation and adaptAction programme in Agence Française de Développement. We have a very strong Polish-French commitment and partnership for climate!
