Supported by the European Commission and powered by Barrabés.biz in collaboration with Energy Cities, EURADA - European Association of Development Agencies, ECSA - European Citizen Science Association, and EUROCROWD, this initiative is a fantastic platform for driving innovative solutions to combat climate change. Our company is dedicated to driving the decarbonization of construction and real estate, a vision perfectly aligned with the goals of this hackathon. The championship aims to harness collective intelligence and collaborative creativity to develop both technological and social solutions for the most pressing climate challenges. The competition unfolds in three exciting stages: 1. **Virtual Local Hackathons**: Hosted by 22 EU locations, igniting local innovation. 2. **Training Modules and Coaching**: Enhancing solutions from winning teams. 3. **EU Final**: Teams vie for top prizes in Best Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Solution, Best Adaptation to Climate Change Solution, and Best Cross-Cutting Solution. Finals of the EU Sparks for Climate - the first European Citizens' Hackathon Championship The first phase of EU Sparks, the national/regional online hackathons across Europe has been completed. It brought together 75 teams from 22 Member States and 7 associated countries. More than 300 young people, students, researchers, innovators and citizens worked together in 14 events to use research results and available knowledge to improve their lives and help their communities to adapt to and mitigate climate change. This ends a six-month journey of innovation and co-creation, demonstrating the power of citizen engagement and knowledge valorisation. It has been made possible with the support of universities, research organisations, city councils and other institutions across Europe acting as local organisers, and more than 100 experts as mentors helping the teams to develop their ideas and as jury members giving feedback and advice and selecting the best teams to move on to the final. Teams will present their solutions to a jury panel of high level experts that will meet in Brussels. To participate, simply propose a climate problem affecting your area, whether it’s small or large, and collaborate with others to find technological or social innovation solutions. ✅ Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) NTNU Smart Sustainable Cities aims to create climate-positive cities and communities in cooperation with public and private sectors, community and grassroot organisations, art and culture, academia and other societal stakeholders. We coordinate several projects with Norwegian, Nordic and European cities and stakeholders. In CrAFt (Creating Actionable Futures), we support more than 70 European cities, their stakeholders and their students, in making their climate transitions inclusive, sustainable and beautiful. The NEB-STAR New European Bauhaus Lighthouse project is one of the six first NEB demonstrators supported by the European Commission, with Stavanger as NEB Lighthouse to showcase in practice how a city can transform from an oil-based to a climate-neutral, inclusive, beautiful and sustainable city in cooperation with its commercial and societal stakeholders. NEB-STAR cooperates closely with the Danish-led DESIRE project and other Nordic stakeholders. In the Re-Value innovation project, we work with 9 waterfront cities, local stakeholders and transversal partners on re-valuing urban design and planning in the face of climate change.
