It’s a wrap at #CyCon2024! Robust port and #maritime #cybersecurity is essential for national and international security, military readiness, and efficient supply chains. The session highlighted the deficiencies in port cybersecurity, examining root causes and sharing perspectives from various stakeholders. Key take-aways: ➡ Ports face significant cybersecurity challenges due to complex systems with outdated hardware and a mix of new and legacy software. ➡ Cybersecurity in ports is often underfunded, leading to inadequate training and vulnerabilities, especially in developing regions. ➡ Both civilian and military sectors face universal cybersecurity risks, underscoring the need for comprehensive and improved measures. U.S. Cyber Command, through the Defense Innovation Unit, has begun the process to standardize the gear that defensive cyber teams use to perform their missions. That effort will now also combine the equipment cyber protection teams use with the kit for hunt-forward operations performed by the Cyber National Mission Force, Cybercom’s elite unit tasked with defending the nation against significant digital threats. Hunt-forward operations, conceptualized over five years ago, involve physically sending defensively oriented cyber protection teams to foreign countries to hunt for threats on their networks at the invitation of host nations. https://lnkd.in/efb5A6te

Russian military hackers linked to critical infrastructure attacks The United States and its allies have formally attributed a series of cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure to Unit 29155 of the GRU, Russia's military intelligence agency. This collective stance underscores the ongoing cybersecurity threats and the importance of international cooperation in addressing these challenges. The joint efforts of cybersecurity agencies across multiple nations have been pivotal in tracing these sophisticated attacks back to their source, highlighting the intricate web of global digital security. As we navigate this complex landscape, the need for robust cybersecurity measures and shared intelligence becomes increasingly evident. For businesses and individuals alike, this serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of cyber threats and the critical need for vigilance in our digital interactions. Contested connectivity: cyber threats in the Asia-Pacific - IISS, THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES "Asia-Pacific countries are facing increasing numbers of state-backed hacking operations serving geopolitical and economic purposes. They are also getting better at conducting them. Domestic and foreign-policy ambitions are manifesting in the information space, where state-linked actors are contesting state adversaries, political opponents and world views both overtly, through activities such as defacement (hacking a target website and replacing its content with the hackers’ own message), and covertly, via disinformation operations." Working with our customers, Calian Group understands how to protect the key infrastructure of defence networks, communications systems, facilities and military equipment. We have the experienced people and innovative solutions to help address the complex cybersecurity and cyber defence challenges facing global militaries. As a student deeply inspired by Estonia's groundbreaking digital infrastructure and cybersecurity innovations, it's thrilling to see NATO's "Crossed Swords" exercise taking place in Tallinn. Estonia's leadership in digital resilience and cybersecurity is a testament to its forward-thinking approach in securing digital ecosystems.Exercises like these remind us that in a world increasingly dependent on technology, cybersecurity is not just a technical challenge but a cornerstone of national and international security. I can't help but feel immense pride in how this small nation continues to set global benchmarks in cyber defense. https://lnkd.in/g9B2js7N

🛡️ Cyber-Defence Campus: Successful crisis simulation strengthens cybersecurity capabilities in Switzerland 🛡️ In response to the increasing complexity of cyber security at the national level, the Cyber-Defence Campus, armasuisse S+T, was commissioned with the pilot project "Cyber Training @ Cyber-Defence Campus". The pilot project was launched in connection with the National Cyber Strategy (NCS) of the Federal Council. The aim of the project is to bring together various organizations of national importance as a community and to provide them with a well-founded range of cyber training courses. These exercises are primarily aimed at cantonal and federal authorities, police units and critical infrastructures and are designed in close cooperation with the National Cyber Security Centre Switzerland NCSC. Synergies with industry and the Swiss Armed Forces Cyber Training Range are also utilized. 💡 With the new “Cyber Training @ Cyber-Defence Campus” project, Swiss authorities and critical infrastructure can complete cyber trainings. This enables them to reflect on their own cyber activities, recognize potential vulnerabilities and identify ways to close them. 🔗 For more on the pilot project, see: https://lnkd.in/ee-Fphbw #armasuisse #CyberSecuritySwitzerland #CyberTraining #CyberDefenceCampus #NationalCyberStrategy armasuisse Wissenschaft und Technologie Schweizer Armee
