Spotlight on Sweden 💡 The Southern Sweden Film Commission, a member of CineRegio Green, is one of the advocates for sustainability within the Swedish film and TV industry. Some of the efforts that the commission has contributed this past year are as follows: • Throughout the past year, the Swedish sustainability tool; Hållbar film, has been updating its content and workflow thanks to the support of the Swedish film funds. As the film commissioners have wanted for a long time, they have now also launched a version in English, making it more accessible for coproductions. The tool is created to shift filmmakers’ mindsets around the production process and works especially well for making sustainability plans. The tool consists of 100 organizational, environmental and social sustainability questions. It has been inspired by gamification to enhance user-friendliness, as it takes you through a planning, production and evaluation phase. You can find the tool and request an account here: https://lnkd.in/dr66AzTn • During the Gothenburg Film Festival, two events on sustainability gained extra attention, both supported by the commission. The first was a panel discussion at the Nordic Film Market which showcased case studies of sustainable film productions by Swedish and Danish producers. The other was a study where a regular TV series budget was compared to a more sustainable budget, taking both social and environmental aspects into consideration, which pointed towards savings of up to 1 million SEK through the more sustainable choices. The event was filmed and can be seen here https://lnkd.in/d_RAWDgf

Everyone says "Hollywood is broken"—but I 100% disagree. Here's why: Hollywood is in the midst of a HUGE transformation right now. With the rise of streaming platforms, changing audience preferences, and a recent strike causing a pause in production, the industry is facing new challenges and opportunities. But this is a beautiful time, filmmaker. Now is the perfect time for filmmakers to get creative, try out new ideas, and push the boundaries of traditional filmmaking. Don't be afraid to experiment and take risks - you never know what groundbreaking work you might create. And I'm taking my own advice. I just opened up registration on my Cinema Green - the premier film sustainability summit in the southeast. This conference will explore sustainable filmmaking practices, holistic mindset, and filmmaker wellness to reimagine a new standard of excellence for films, from indie to Hollywood. Embrace the shift in the industry, experiment with new ideas, and redefine excellence in filmmaking. Don't miss out on this opportunity to be a part of something groundbreaking. Register now and be a part of the future of film! #HollywoodTransformation #StreamingRevolution #FilmmakerOpportunities #CreativeExperimentation #PushingBoundaries #NewEraOfFilmmaking #SustainableCinema #CinemaGreenSummit #FilmmakerWellness #IndieToHollywood #IndustryShift #RedefineExcellence #GroundbreakingFilms #FutureOfFilm #RegisterNow

Exploring sustainable filmmaking because creativity shouldn't come at the planet's expense. Let's find new ways to tell stories while keeping our world beautiful and clean. Last friday I was attending the Nederlands Film Festival (NFF) Extended X @filmforfuture.nl seminar about how we can create with keeping the health of our planet in mind. This seminar was held in the beautiful @eye_film ! What kept my brain busy was the following: ▶️ Shifting the narratives from apocalyptic to regenerative stories ▶️ Re-framing justice narratives, where we see normal people claiming their power by working together ▶️Nature as our family (That is also a fact because we are part of it) ▶️Vision of a hopeful future Changes have to be made in all our mindsets and telling stories through film en tv/streaming shows can do just that. Example: Just write a line in your script where two characters talk about how it is better for your health to travel by bike more often than taking the car. You also keep our planet in mind with that. So it was a interesting afternoon and it sparked a idea. Will share that later. #writingforthefuture #climatechange #Storytelling #Justice #nff #magaimedia #ycframesmedia #2020studiosnl

🎥 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢! Last week, EFAD proudly participated in two remarkable screenings in Brussels. Each event highlighted European filmmaking's diversity, creativity, and collaborative spirit. ✨ On December 10, in collaboration with the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (ECCD) and other prominent European cultural and audiovisual associations, we hosted the exclusive screening of the Hungarian feature Semmelweis, directed by Lajos Koltai, at Cinema Palace. This historical biopic is Hungary’s official Oscars entry. ✨ On December 11, the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU and TAKE FIVE, in partnership with EFAD, ARTE, and the LUX Audience Award, presented the breathtaking animated film Flow by Gints Zilbalodis at Cinema Galeries. This stunning Latvian co-production won Best European Animated Film at the 37th European Film Awards and is nominated for the 2025 LUX Audience Award. Both events reinforced how European cinema connects us across borders, stories, and perspectives. 3 Key Takeaways from the Cannes Film Market 2024 We just wrapped up our week in Cannes, attending the Cannes Film Market 2024 as part of the Versatile Media Ltd team. As Development Producer, my goal for the festival was to meet with a number of our partners, discover new projects and talk to people about how we use Virtual Production as part of the storytelling toolkit. What a ride it was. Here are a few things I learned while I was there: Challenges in film financing Financing is coming in from all different avenues. Long are the days of walking into a pitch and walking out with a financed film. You will pull from many sources. However, there is good news. With the right project, there seem to be a lot of people willing to help. Packaging is king To stand out, a film package has to be robust. That means more than a great pitch or pitch deck- it means securing attachments with known talent, a strong director and a really good financing plan. For veteran producers this is kind of a no brainer but for emerging producers this can feel overwhelming. I’m hoping to explore this more in future posts so feel free to DM me if that’s something you’d like to see Clearing up misconceptions about Virtual Productions My goal when chatting with people about Virtual Production is to determine how an led wall could elevate their film or solve considerable production issues for their projects. Before we can get to that point however, I’m finding there are a lot of misconceptions about what virtual production actually is. Most commonly people associate it with the Mandolorian or assume it’s the same as green screen. It’s not yet widely known that utilizing an LED wall can offer a tremendous amount of creative freedom and can boost the production value of a film. Through more education and hands on experience, I predict we will see a considerable amount of growth in this sector. Overall the trip was incredible and it was wonderful to meet so many passionate and motivated film industry professionals. The people in Cannes were welcoming and warm, the food was great and the views were spectacular. Plus, I saw Greta Gerwig on the red carpet so my Cannes bucket list is officially complete. Looking forward to next year. #cannes #film #filmversatile #filmindustry #cannes2024

Setting a bold vision for our film production goals has always driven our passion. Recently, we aimed to elevate our storytelling by embracing the diverse cultural tapestry of the MENA region. Yet, the pursuit wasn't without its challenges. We faced the task of integrating traditional narratives with modern filmmaking techniques, ensuring that we honored the rich heritage while appealing to contemporary audiences. This required deep collaboration with local filmmakers, cultural institutions, and artists, fostering an inclusive environment where every voice matters. Adapting our approach was crucial. We hosted workshops that encouraged open dialogue and partnerships, merging artistic insights with innovative techniques. The outcome? A beautifully crafted film that resonated with audiences, both locally and internationally, igniting conversations about our shared stories and heritage. Through this journey, we've learned the importance of flexibility in artistic collaboration. Stay open, listen deeply, and be willing to adapt your approach. This creates space for creativity to flourish and innovation to thrive. Your dreams in the cinematic landscape are worth pursuing, and they deserve to be nurtured with passion and respect. Together, let’s illuminate our stories! ✨🎥 #MENAcinema #CulturalHeritage #Filmmaking #ArtisticCollaboration #StorytellingJourney

UK Asian Film Festival 2025 dates and theme announced! WHEN: 1 -11 May 2025 THEME: Longing and Belonging We invite filmmakers from around the globe to submit their works to the "Longing and Belonging" theme of the annual UK Asian Film Festival, a celebration of films that explore one of the most profound human experiences—the search for connection, identity, and purpose. In every corner of the world, people wrestle with feelings of longing—yearning for love, home, acceptance, or meaning—and the deep desire to find a place where they truly belong. Whether it’s a story of a displaced immigrant, a journey of self-discovery, a quest for love, or the tension between tradition and modernity, we are seeking films that creatively and thoughtfully delve into these emotional landscapes. Your film could explore: • Personal longing: The internal struggles for identity, self-acceptance, or reconciliation with the past. • Cultural displacement: The experience of being torn between two worlds or searching for a new home. • Relationships: The complex dynamics of belonging to or yearning for a family, community, or a lover. • Existential search: Films that probe deeper questions about the meaning of life, home, and place in the world. We encourage bold storytelling, fresh perspectives, and artistic experimentation. Whether your work is a quiet meditation on identity, a visually arresting experimental piece, or a character-driven narrative of migration or self-acceptance, we are eager to see how you interpret this timeless theme.
