Last one before the weekend... Thanks Liz Rattray for flagging! "The collaboration between university and industry has emerged as a powerful catalyst for research impact and innovation. While some may harbour reservations about the potential drawbacks of such partnerships, a growing body of evidence demonstrates their ability to significantly enhance research outcomes. By joining forces with industry, universities gain access to invaluable resources, including state-of-the-art technology, funding, and real-world insights that would be difficult to obtain independently. However, it is essential to acknowledge the potential challenges, such as workload management, intellectual property disputes, and conflicts of interest, that may arise in these collaborations. This brief explores the benefits, challenges, and actionable recommendations for universities, industry partners, and policymakers to strengthen collaboration between universities and industry." https://lnkd.in/ew7NmbZK via UIIN

Higher Education: Research and Innovation Based on the definitions in this article it would be a stretch to conclude that higher education providers are producers of innovative outcomes. From my direct experience there is also a bit of a stigma against applied Applied Research in universityland. Possibly because it won't get researchers into top notch journals which helps with rankings which attracts international students which funds research. #RND #research #researchanddevelopment #innovation #appliedresearch #highereducation

University collaborations are incredibly important to FOSS. FOSS has just signed a new five-year framework collaboration agreement with Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, after the successful completion of the first agreement from 2019 that has enabled several successful projects such as: • Projects with the two bright students next to me, Yannik Rath Refn and Rasmus Gammeltoft Jensen. They worked on a bachelor’s project about detecting unusual data in spectroscopy. They’ve been helping improve sugar beet applications as student assistants and are now starting their master’s projects at FOSS. • Ole-Christian Galbo Engstrøm’s PhD-project about using advanced imaging techniques to analyze grains. This project, supported by Innovation Fund Denmark, is a collaboration between the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen - DIKU and the Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen. This agreement is an important step towards a future where academia and industry work even more closely together to combine their strengths in developing solutions that make a real difference in society. I have an ambition that we will soon make framework agreements with other universities as well! 💪
