MEPs approve President Ursula von der Leyen's 🆕European Commission 📢 Today, in Strasbourg, the European Parliament voted on the new college of #EU Commissioners, which will be proposing the Union's policies for the next five years ➡️ new EC mandate 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣ - 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣9️⃣ 👍 FIEC EU wishes all the best to President von der Leyen and her Team, who will take office on 1 December. Relaunching the #competitiveness of the EU #economy, fostering a business-friendly #environment, in particular for #SMEs, facilitating the implementation of the “clean” and digital #transitions, elaborating rapidly an efficient strategy for affordable #housing, ensuring #investments in #infrastructure for smart #mobility, tackling the problem of #labour shortages...all these are key priorities for #construction. 🇪🇺🤝🇨🇦 Strengthening Ties Across Borders I had the pleasure of meeting with Frank Kehlenbach, Director of the EIC - European International Contractors, in Berlin to share the Canadian industry perspective. Our discussions highlighted shared challenges for both the European and Canadian construction sectors, including productivity gaps, workforce shortages, and the critical need for innovative delivery models. It’s clear that construction industries on both sides of the Atlantic face common pressures—from the need for sustainable long-term infrastructure funding to addressing housing affordability, which has become a severe issue worldwide. Canadian and European organizations alike are exploring more efficient project delivery models to maximize resources and address these urgent challenges. We were particularly interested in the EIC’s recent Workshop on Collaborative Delivery Models held in Copenhagen (https://lnkd.in/eQPzYbXS), where public owners shared valuable insights on alternative procurement approaches that could reshape government project delivery. Sharing information and best practices between our associations will be key in identifying actionable solutions, and we look forward to continuing this knowledge exchange on both bilateral and global levels. 🌍 Our policy recommendations for the upcoming mandate As Europe enters a new policy phase and the #DraghiReport is on everyone's lips, we restate our key recommendations to support policymakers' vision of building a resilient, competitive, and sustainable future. Here’s how we see progress: 👉 Promoting long-term investments: EPRA believes that listed real estate can be a prime vector for long-term investments. To foster sustainable growth, we advocate for a balanced regulatory framework that encourages investment in the real estate sector. The Draghi Report highlights that “regulation is seen by more than 60% of EU companies as an obstacle to investment.” Similarly, EPRA’s manifesto calls for prioritizing competitiveness over-regulation in the EU equity market, with initiatives like the EU Listing Act reducing red tape and fostering capital growth. 👉 Green transition: With the urgency of climate goals, our focus is on facilitating the green transition across Europe’s built environment. This paper strongly calls for acknowledging the fundamental role that cities and regions play in a sustainable, competitive, and prosperous Europe.    𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘦𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘔𝘍𝘍? 💠 Cities should keep direct access to EU funding. 💠 Cities should be given the space to contribute with their local ambition to global goals.  💠 Cities have to be actively involved in the shaping and implementing funding programs from the start.  💠 The next EU budget should be simplified, accessible, and effective.   💡 Place-based, locally driven investments must be the backbone of the next MFF. The Chancellor's speech today has sparked optimism among business leaders across the UK. 📈 Shevaun Haviland, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, highlighted key takeaways that could be game-changers for our economy. Welcome back to the new EU five year mandate! The first Ordinary Meeting of the TRAN Committee of the European Parliament in this mandate takes place on Wednesday this week. This follows the Constitutive Meeting held on 23 July. I thought it would be useful to share some of the key documents and provide some insight each month or so, ahead of the meetings.
