This one-size-fits-all approach to tobacco regulation overlooks the unique aspects of cigar culture and imposes unnecessary restrictions on enthusiasts. Advocates are calling for a more nuanced understanding and regulation that respects the distinctiveness of cigars. A great article about Auckland Council's work to reduce alcohol harm that is giving hope to other Councils around Aotearoa. Most of the alcohol related research consistently indicates that reducing the trading hours of licensed premises and reducing the actual number of alcohol outlets are two of the most effective measures available to reduce alcohol harm in our communities. https://lnkd.in/eUtyxZEN

As we celebrate World Vape Day today, we at BAT are calling for the implementation of smarter regulation for smokeless alternatives to build a Smokeless World. To leverage the public health potential offered by these alternative products, appropriate and sustainable regulations need to be enforced to encourage adult smokers to switch. Yet, within our Region, we are seeing a number of attempts to place an outright ban on these important product categories, which are leading to negative, unintended consequences such as rise in black market products. This needs to change. During my recent visit to Uzbekistan, I had the opportunity to speak about the importance of regulating, not banning, the smokeless alternatives to capitalise on the harm reduction potential of these products. History was made on Thursday, as the Labour Party swept to a landslide victory at the British general election. 🗳️ So what does this mean now for UK vape policy, particularly in light of the recently tabled Tobacco and Vape Bill? 🇬🇧 With UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) survey results showing little confidence in political leadership toward a smokefree future, there is much work to do.
