According to this article, local dance companies in the United States are creating successful ecosystems by providing opportunities for local artists and building strong connections with their communities. Companies like Stewart/Owen Dance in Asheville and New Dialect in Nashville are strengthening local dance and offering sustainable job opportunities for artists. These companies aim to build local ecosystems rather than focusing on national fame, and they create a successful and supportive environment by engaging directly with their communities. As a dancer in Turkey, our local dance ecosystem, while showing activity in major cities, is still in a developmental stage. Local communities are often limited to local culture rather than aiming for international success. There is a lack of infrastructure to support local artists and difficulties in creating consistent job opportunities. It is clear that more infrastructure and support are needed for the sustainability of local dance. . . #LocalDance #DanceEcosystem #CommunityBuilding #SustainableOpportunities #DanceArtists #CulturalSupport #DanceInTurkey #InfrastructureForDance #SupportingArtists #DanceDevelopment #LocalCulture #DanceSustainability #EylülErcan #Dance #Dancer

THE SECOND BIGGEST HOLIDAY 🎃👻🍬 Most arts organizations recognize the importance of Christmas 🎅=💵 But more and more of them are starting to understand Halloween. After Christmas, Halloween is the holiday buyers spend the most on. And savvy arts programmers are leveraging it for the benefit of the organization. Titles this year that have shown incredible box office across the arts: Harry Potter 🧙 Nosferatu 🧛 Rocky Horror 🧟♀️ Disney's Fantasia🧹 Nightmare Before Christmas 🩻 Off-broadway there's Teeth - which I saw earlier this year. It's a rollicking, blood soaked musical with some truly inspired prop work. I will leave it to you to google the plot. 🩸 All this to say, decades ago ballet companies discovered the importance of Nutcracker in balancing the budget for the year. Programming titles that fit the need of the moment helps pay for other shows with perhaps greater artistic merit, but less demand. 💰 It gets back to relevance. Have I missed an important Halloween title, you've had success with? Share it below ⤵️

MAISHA and the three-week co-creative challenge: Tackling the extraordinary In the dynamic world of MAISHA, artists from diverse continents and cultural backgrounds unite to tackle an extraordinary challenge: assembling a show from scratch in just three weeks. For the Dance edition, this means navigating choreography, stage setup, costume design and music coordination with a live band, each aspect demanding careful coordination and attention to detail. In the midst of this whirlwind, another significant challenge arises. Unlike professional ensembles who can rely on a history of teamwork and coordination, MAISHA artists must first establish cohesion by getting to know each other and finding common ground to collaborate effectively. Only a very select breed of artists can navigate these complexities and demonstrate that collaboration knows no bounds and that cultural diversity is not a hindrance but a source of strength on stage.

Story of my past. When I was in my 1st year of the Bachelor Dance Teacher program in Tilburg (NL), the final performance was approaching. There would be three choreographers: two from the school and one guest choreographer. The school choreographers chose their dancers first, and I wasn’t selected. Initially, I felt rejected and bitter. But soon, I saw it as an opportunity. I got to work with the guest choreographer and learned so much from his new techniques and perspectives. I practiced diligently and embraced my role in his piece. 💡 This experience taught me to see rejection as a chance to grow. Feeling down is okay, but it’s how you respond that matters. 💡 How do you turn setbacks into opportunities? #Resilience #GrowthMindset #Dance #mindset

Why Choosing the Right Choir Uniform Is Important Discussion on body positivity and inclusivity in performing arts costumes. Robes create uniformity without exclusivity. If not wearing robes, we must find a way that makes all members feel confident in the way they look. #bodypositivity #inclusivity #costumedesign #selflove #performingarts #choralclarity #choralclaritymentorship
