In my view, we European researchers should start adding 'European Union' to our affiliation when we sign a paper as an author, just after our country. This could help to make more visible the impact that EU-based research has. I have created the tag #AddEU to promote this idea @ec.europa.eu

“It’s too hard to find anyone in academia to work with”, “why doesn’t industry reach out to collaborate” and “who should I speak to” are such common questions around research translation and commercialisation at the nexus of academia and industry. If only we had a database to search… …. Your praised have been answered it seems. Congratulations Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) for the recent launch of Research Link Australia (RLA), a fantastic initiative funded by #NCRIS and co-designed with research community groups, government bodies, key data agencies, research-industry facilitators and businesses. "...The RLA service introduces a platform to facilitate seamless information sharing and collaboration. It provides a robust infrastructure for researchers, government and industry stakeholders to connect and thereby drive innovation. Information is derived from a number of open sources and RLA is continuing to work with providers to improve coverage and quality..." https://lnkd.in/gxGH32c2 #researchtranslation #commercialisation #innovation Source image: Austin Distel via unsplashed

📣 Find our newly published article here! 📖 Educational Status as a Mediator of Intergenerational Social Mobility in Europe: A #Positional_Analysis Approach 📍 https://buff.ly/3IYiGMD This paper investigates the transmission of educational attainment from parents to offspring as a mediator of intergenerational class mobility in Europe. The proposed positional method is validated through a correlation analysis between the upward mobility scores (nominal and positional) with the Education Expansion Index (EEI) for the respective years. The upward mobility scores estimated via the positional method are more highly correlated with the EEI for all years, indicating a better alignment with the broader trends in educational participation and achievement. #MDPIOpenAccess #ComSciMathMdpi #MathematicsMdpi

📲🔈How can we take advantage of digital innovation to promote democracy? Digital technology has been blamed for weakening democracy, but we can also use it to make democracy stronger. This is the plan behind the new #ERCSyG- funded "ADDI" project. Umberto Grandi of the Université Toulouse Capitole, Ulle Endriss at Universiteit van Amsterdam, Cesar A. Hidalgo from Toulouse School of Economics, and Maija Setälä from Turun yliopisto - University of Turku have united forces to improve how we involve people in digital decision-making democratic processes. The team aims to establish the scientific basis of democratic technological innovations, focusing on digital platforms such as apps or websites that allow individuals or groups to engage in the discussion of different topics – for example providing feedback to policies, voting on proposals, filling out surveys, to name just a few! Europe’s 'fifth freedom' is a bold and inspiring vision for shared knowledge and innovation. The idea of creating a unified knowledge ecosystem is compelling, and for me, it raises the question: will the UK find its own way to contribute or follow suit?

Europe's Fifth Freedom: A Vision for Shared Knowledge As a passionate advocate for European integration and innovation, I'm excited about the transformative potential of the proposed European Knowledge Area (EKA) by Kurt Deketelaere. The concept of a "fifth freedom" goes beyond traditional economic freedoms, promising to unlock the full potential of our continent's greatest resource: human knowledge. Inspired by Enrico Letta's visionary report, this initiative aims to create a truly unified European knowledge ecosystem. Imagine a Europe where researchers, students, and innovators can move, collaborate, and share ideas as freely as goods and capital. This isn't just an administrative change – it's a fundamental reimagining of how we approach education, research, and innovation. The proposed European Knowledge Law would break down the barriers that currently fragment our intellectual landscape. By making knowledge circulation a legal priority, we can drive economic vitality, societal advancement, and cultural understanding. It's an ambitious plan that recognizes that our collective intelligence is our most powerful asset. Particularly compelling is the proposal to integrate research, innovation, data, and education into a comprehensive framework. This approach acknowledges that breakthrough solutions come from breaking down silos and creating interconnected opportunities. Of course, challenges remain – especially in harmonizing education policies across diverse national systems. But that's precisely why this initiative is so important. It represents a bold step towards a more unified, collaborative European future. I fully support the establishment of the fifth freedom and the European Knowledge Area. It's time we transform our shared potential into shared progress.
