Showcase Robots All Over The BBC! Gravesend and the Innovation Showcase were all over the BBC this week, highlighting so much of what is so great about the town - the people and businesses. Quick stats in numbers (all approximate)** > 25 volunteers looking after speakers, venues and visitors > 18 businesses/churches providing a venue > 12 food businesses ensuring speakers and volunteers were well-fed > 45 speakers and demonstrators from across the country actively engage visitors > 400-500 active participants from Gravesend and wider Kent. Sellout lasers, busy Grand GYG, 100+ in the library and a steady flow in other locations. For a first attempt at an event like this in a town like Gravesend, without a university or large advanced technology business hub, it was a very pleasing result against a pretty terrible transport road and rail failure on a freezing, cold day. Thanks to everyone involved and Gravesend for showing what can be done when all are pulled together. Thanks to Gravesham Borough Council for funding the Innovation Showcase using funding from the UK Government. And also to everyone who came along, speakers, visitors, volunteers and businesses - thanks for being involved and BBC (particularly @hifivephil) for being so generous with their support. Read more on the BBC website: https://lnkd.in/eJVHGNhw ** It will take a couple of weeks to fully assess the attendees and full feedback from all the speakers. There are many new blog posts and updates to follow, stay tuned. https://lnkd.in/e2VV3Q8f #highstreets #towncentres #regeneration #cityplanning #highstreet #innovation #communityengagement #publicintervention

Another very enjoyable event in Rochester on Wednesday, hosted by Medway Council to launch the latest phase of their Shared Prosperity Funding. Anyone based in Medway can apply for assistance in the three nominated categories; Pride In Place, People & Skills and a Feasibility Fund and there are generous levels of support available for successful applicants. If you would like to discuss your project with the dedicated Medway SPF team, they can be contacted at MedwayUKSPF@medway.gov.uk. The event was very well supported and the audience consisted of a wide selection of people active in the Medway area, from those organising community groups or involved in community care, those interested in green energy and the environment, through to a variety of straightforward business and commerce - and everything in between! One of the most notable outcomes was that, having all been assembled in the same room, it was amazing how people with outwardly quite disparate areas of interest suddenly started talking about shared aims and collaborations. If ever there was a perfect example of how the world works much better when people actually come together and talk to each other face-to-face, this was it, so well done Medway Council. I look forward to attending more of your planned events in the future. And finally, therefore, a plea to everyone; remember that we are all social animals and can achieve much more when we work together!! When it comes to organizing community events, the true measure of success goes beyond just attendance. Understanding the full impact on visitor behaviour, engagement and the local economy is crucial for effective planning and future growth. Medway Council’s recent collaboration with Visitor Insights Ltd for Chatham's Chinese Festival is a prime example of how data-driven decision-making can enhance event management and strategic planning. https://lnkd.in/e-R3rgrz Get in touch. hello@visitorinsights.ai #mobilitydata #footfall #eventmanagement #datainsights

Get involved in having a say about the future of Medway! I know local plans are complex and contentious, but we have been working hard on a draft plan that considers the homes, employment spaces, infrastructure and opportunities that our communities need. This further regulation 18 consultation provides more detail and another opportunity for stakeholders to give their views. Our last local plan is from 2003, it’s crucial we implement a new one that sets out our direction for Medway.
🔊 Your Medway: Your future: Your say this summer It’s time to have your say on how Medway will grow over the coming years. The latest consultation on our emerging Local Plan takes place between Monday, 15 July to Sunday, 8 September. This eight-week period gives you the opportunity to comment on our proposed options for development and the policies to help us progress towards our draft Local Plan that will be published next year. Now is your chance to tell us how you want to see Medway grow up to 2041, including: ➡ Housing ➡ Improved public services ➡ Better public transport, and opportunities for walking and cycling ➡ Better jobs ➡ Growing businesses ➡ More access to green spaces We want Medway to grow sustainably and our Local Plan will help Medway to be an even greater place to live, work, learn and visit for years to come. Find out more about the consultation ahead of its launch on Monday 👇 https://lnkd.in/eR_TBYhU #YourFutureMedway #BeProudtoBeMedway

If you're interested in joining the conversation on Oct 25th at 10am then it would be great to see you. If you've haven't attended one of our virtual cafes and you have an interest (big or small) in rural and islands transport then you'll e-meet people from across the ecosystem who represent community groups, councils, technology service providers, policy makers and funding bodies. There is most fixed agenda at this month's Cafe so you can pop in and share what's on your mind. Here's what's on mine. ➡ Supporting Rural Community Car-Clubs - Issues getting insurance threaten the existance of community run car clubs. This is a big issue!! ➡ Rural Public EV Charging Infrastructure - Where does it make financial sense to install it? How can the private sector support so that there is less need for so many public chargers? ➡ Road Safety - Rural roads are notoriously dangerous. Particuarly to pedestrains and cyclists. We need more dedicated walking, wheeling and cycling paths but how do we develop viable business cases and address planning constraints? ➡ Overtoursim - Our rural and island commununities depend on tourists, most of whom will travel by car or campervan. However, the sheer volume of vehicles is causing real issues at popular tourist attractions including congestion, accidents and littering? How do we as a community address these issues in ways that don't damage the tourist economy? ➡ Ferries......................................... 😡 😡 That's a few conversation starters. Feel free to add some more here if you there is a topic that you are particuarly passionate about. Scottish E-Mobility Clan
