📈 Today, we talk about trends in plastic packaging. ♻ The US Plastics Pact, launched in August 2020, is the first in North America, led by The Recycling Partnership and supported by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The members aim to: 1️⃣ Identify and eliminate problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging by 2025. 2️⃣ Ensure all plastic packaging is 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025. 3️⃣ Achieve a 50% recycling or composting rate for plastic packaging by 2025. 4️⃣ Increase the average recycled or responsibly sourced bio-based content to 30% by 2025. ⌛ The US Plastics Pact has published its latest Roadmap 2.0 action plan for manufacturers to change the way how plastic packaging is reused, recycled, and composted. 📢 Progress in Plastics: EU Packaging Regulation Approval 🇪🇺 The European Parliament has officially adopted the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR). This is a significant step toward making the European plastics system more circular and climate-friendly, as highlighted by Virginia Janssens, Managing Director of Plastics Europe. 💡 Key Highlights: Circular Economy Goals: The regulation sets a solid foundation for increasing the use of recycled materials and enhancing reuse and recycling across Europe. Industry Advocacy: Plastics Europe has strongly supported ambitious yet achievable targets for recycled content, advocating for a regulatory framework that ensures both economic viability and sustainability.
