𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 In a recent study of European start-ups, one technique consistently boosted performance: the scientific method, a centuries-old discipline of formulating, testing, and tweaking hypotheses. Ventures employing it generated more revenues than those that didn’t and were also more likely to pivot away from unviable ideas, a necessity for early-stage firms. Entrepreneurs can easily apply it by following these steps: 1. First, state your main hypothesis. 2. Define the critical dependencies underlying the hypotheses and investigate them. 3. Refine your theories and test them again—but more broadly. “Entrepreneurs who adopt the scientific method are not visionaries. They’re aware that their theories may be wrong. And when they’re wrong, they modify their theories, which they test again. If no theories are successful, they terminate the start-up,” says Gambardella, a professor of corporate management at Bocconi University. Even if you end up shutting down a business, don’t worry. “Failing a few times is a recipe for future success,” Gambardella says. I’ve always had a fire for entrepreneurship, but my MBA truly lit the path. The time I spent in Silicon Valley tackling the Executive Development Program was nothing short of eye-opening—it’s hard to describe the buzz of innovation you feel in the air there. I found myself surrounded by visionary thinkers and the masterminds of the tech revolution, people who were pushing boundaries and redefining what’s possible. It wasn’t just the energy of the place, but the sheer excitement of seeing how technology could drive real-world change. That atmosphere fueled my ambition to build something impactful and guided the founding of sustamize. Today i can proudly say, that we’re helping businesses worldwide reduce their CO2 footprint and make a tangible difference by diving into the innovative world of Climate Tech. 💡𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲. Dear friends and colleagues, after spending 30 years building and selling my own companies, supporting startups as a business angel, coach, and board member, and advising leaders and intrapreneurs at multinational companies on how to become more entrepreneurial, I’m now looking for opportunities to teach the next generation of budding entrepreneurs about entrepreneurship and business modeling. It was a great joy to be the Course Director of “Business Model Innovation”, a 7.5 credit course at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (ranked #74 in QS World University Rankings). My students were kind enough to gift my course with one of the highest-ever recorded scores at KTH. The course was 100% digital and taught in the evenings from 17.00 – 19.45, two days a week for seven weeks totaling 38.5 hours. The schedule can of course be adjusted to fit almost any need. We used a combination of Zoom and Mural (an online whiteboard canvas similar to Miro). The course consists of one individual assignment and one group assignment + several workshops, plenary sessions, presentations by the course director and external speakers, team discussions, and a jury evaluating the students’ business models at the end of the course. Some of my side projects include being on the jury of the European Innovation Council, which is responsible for investing in European startups. I’ve also co-written ISO 56002 for innovation management. Here are some testimonials: https://lnkd.in/dujGF3Da If you would like a more detailed outline of my course I would be happy to share that with you. #business modeling #entrepreneurship

As someone who began my career as a scientist (University of Melbourne, University of Cambridge, The Florey) before transitioning into management consulting (Nous Group) and entrepreneurship (starting Curio Group), I found this article from Harvard Business Review particularly resonant: Why Entrepreneurs Should Think Like Scientists (https://lnkd.in/g2idikxQ). The article highlights how the scientific method – characterised by rigorous experimentation, data-driven decision-making, and a relentless pursuit of understanding – can significantly enhance entrepreneurial success. In my journey, these principles have been invaluable. The skills I developed in the lab, such as hypothesis testing, critical thinking, and resilience in the face of failure, have translated seamlessly into the business world. At Curio Group, we believe in transforming learning experiences with the same scientific rigor and curiosity that drive innovation. Embracing a mindset of continuous learning and adaptation has not only fueled our growth but also empowered us to help our clients navigate their challenges more effectively. I encourage fellow entrepreneurs and business leaders to read this insightful article and consider how adopting a scientific approach can propel your ventures forward. #Entrepreneurship #Science #Innovation #Curio #Leadership #ContinuousLearning

🔍 Embracing an entrepreneurial mindset in a corporate setting can be transformative in corporate! Why you might ask? Thinking like an entrepreneur often parallels scientific inquiry. Entrepreneurs, much like scientists, thrive on experimentation, adaptability, and a rigorous approach to solving problems. In the corporate world, adopting this mindset means being more proactive about innovation, questioning the status quo, and rigorously testing new ideas and strategies before full-scale implementation. This approach not only fosters a culture of continuous improvement but also positions companies to better navigate the complexities of modern business landscapes. 👉 Why Entrepreneurs Should Think Like Scientists: https://lnkd.in/dNjr2WUz #BusinessInnovation #EntrepreneurialMindset #CorporateStrategy #Leadership #ExponentialLeadership #Innovation #DataDriven

Imagine turning an intangible idea into a groundbreaking product that adds real value (tangible). Our Brave Fellows experienced that firsthand with The Product Field Framework, led by the brilliant minds of Michael Schieben who co-authored the framework, and Rönke von der Heide from Germany. This session wasn’t just a lesson; it was a transformative leap into structured ideation. Innovation as both a Process and a Result was the least of what they learned. Starting with simple projects like a Lemonade Store, our Fellows learned to take abstract concepts and build them into meaningful businesses. The Product Field empowered them with the tools to Realize and Introduce a journey from idea to value, from thought to action. The Product Field Framework approaches problems clearly, combining insights from Design Thinking and Lean Startup methodology into a cohesive and structured process. Each Fellow not only showcased their creativity but learned to execute ideas with precision, making innovation not just a dream but a picture-perfect reality (literally displayed on a chart). What’s truly groundbreaking about the Product Field isn’t just the framework itself, but how it fosters collaboration, cultivates bold thinking, and challenges you to look at the world differently. It opens your eyes to new opportunities and offers a tangible path forward. This journey with the Product Field has changed how our fellows think and act. It teaches that innovation is about having great ideas and knowing “how” to nurture and bring them to life. Here, creativity meets strategy, and ideas turn into value. #BraveFellows #BraveRedemptive #ProductField #Innovation #CreativeStrategy #DesignThinking #LeanStartup #Entrepreneurship #linkedin
