There is a clear picture emerging. In a contested global order, it would appear that Italy – as a significant European maritime power – is stepping up to the plate to lead when it should, to convene when it can, and to act when it must. https://lnkd.in/dNiRutBz

President Valdas Adamkus has been rewarded as a two-decade European. At that time, he was an active participant and witness of the process of Lithuania's accession to the European Union. In a 9-minute interview on LRT yesterday, he shared his insights. Here are some of the most important points he made: Lithuania's accession to the EU is an achievement of the whole nation: Adamkus stressed that Lithuania's successful integration into the EU is not only an achievement of the government, but also of the whole Lithuanian nation. Contrast between being European 20 years ago and today: He pointed out the significant differences between Lithuania's position in Europe two decades ago and now. Efforts to increase Lithuania's role in the EU: Adamkus underlined his efforts as President to ensure that Lithuania is not only a participant in the EU, but also a decision-maker defending the country's interests at European level. Equal status among EU countries today: He noted with pride that Lithuania is now on an equal footing among EU countries, which reflects the country's progress and integration into the European community. Support for Ukraine's future EU membership: Mr Adamkus highlighted the importance of supporting Ukraine's ambition to become an equal member of the EU in the future, underlining the importance of solidarity and cooperation between European nations. Ukraine's potential contribution to Europe: He expressed optimism about Ukraine's potential to bring new ideas and perspectives to Europe, underlining the enriching impact it could have on Europe as a whole. https://lnkd.in/gZkh-Ss2

I’m attending today the IV Arab Italian business forum in Roma. I have an increasing number of requests from my Italian corporate customers for support/assistance in the Arab region that confirms the growing potential of those markets for Italian (and European) companies. Recent visit of Italian prime minister in the Gulf countries is another evidence of the strategic importance of the Arab countries for Italy. In the current context of rebalancing the equilibrium between the world great powers, an increased co-operation between the countries of the Mediterranean basin that unites historically Europe and Arab world could only be beneficial to all parties. Arab partners represent a huge potential for Italy and Europe. And Europe -not only thanks to its geographical proximity but mainly to its knowledge and sensitivity to Arab world- can be the right & most balanced partner for the Arab region. In this context I’m of the opinion that Italy is the best placed European country to build a relationship of trust as it is perceived as an extremely reliable & respectful partner. Finally common call for peace, serenity and stability in this region should be a key element of this global co-operation in the interest of all its members. During a recent visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Kabir Jurazoda, Director of the #CARECInstitute, engaged in a strategic discussion with key representatives of the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives (NISI) under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, including Mr. Sanjar Mukanbetov, Director of NISI, and Mr. Sultan Akhmatov, Head of International Relations at NISI. This meeting served as a constructive platform to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on identifying areas for joint initiatives, with Mr. Jurazoda emphasizing the CAREC Institute’s ongoing research, capacity-building efforts, and dedication to addressing critical regional challenges. NISI expressed a strong interest in collaboration, noting the legacy of one of its predecessor institutions as a former member of the CAREC Think Tank Network. A key outcome of this engagement was NISI’s proposal to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding, which would provide a structured framework for future joint activities. Both institutions agreed to draft a comprehensive Action Plan detailing specific objectives and collaborative projects, to be further refined and aligned through an expert-level virtual meeting. Further, Mr. Mukanbetov proposed extending discussions with the CAREC Institute through internal brainstorming sessions and videoconferences to foster concrete collaborations and advance shared goals. This meeting marks a pivotal step toward deepening institutional ties and leveraging shared expertise to promote impactful initiatives that support sustainable development within the Kyrgyz Republic and the broader region.

How would you describe China's dominance in IMO? In 2022, all 6 contestants from China in IMO were appearing for the first time. All 6 of them got a perfect score. But none of them represented China in IMO-2023! In EGMO - 2023, China's first participation in EGMO and all their 4 girls got a perfect score which was never done before by any country. None of the 4 girls got to represent China in IMO-2023! In the last 10 years, only one candidate got the chance to represent China in IMO twice! So, they have serious IMO contestants in abundance! For the last 5 years, China has got Rank 1 only in IMO. And despite the EGMO-2023 great performance, in the last 5 years there was only 1 Chinese girl in their IMO Team. And that happened in 2020. Probably there are two reasons: (1) We know that though EGMO is tough but IMO is tougher. Since they have so many serious candidates for IMO, that even getting perfect scores in EGMO is (maybe) not enough to be amongst the 6 selected for IMO. (2) China has a rule that no contestant...no matter how good he/she is, cannot represent China in IMO more than twice. So, that might be one reason.
