Many young people growing up in Alice Springs & other remote communities can't see what opportunities in life might lie ahead for them. They see their parents & grandparents, see the poverty all around them, the lack of opportunities in life. They see other Aussies living great lives on TV & social media but not them or their people. The curfew is a short-term circuit breaker to street violence but it's not a long-term fix around education, healthcare, housing, employment or the lifetime opportunities that are needed. There is a way of creating real & meaningful jobs in Alice & other remote communities through modern technology. India & Philippines created tens of thousands of jobs and lifted many more out of poverty by establishing call centres & selling their services. A recent poll indicated 72% of Aussies don't like calls they make to local companies being answered by overseas operators. We can fix that by creating virtual call centres across Australia which would create real & meaningful jobs for all Australians living in rural & remote communities. The technology exists.
