QUANTUM COMPUTING & BIOMIMICRY | Part 4 “The systems behind our universe are quantum mechanical. They shift and change with the problems they’re tasked to solve, exploring a vast array of options all at once. And like nature, quantum computing is responsive to the environments it works within, leading us to new breakthroughs for tomorrow’s most challenging problems.” - Video Narration (https://lnkd.in/eH6Eut4g) Here, Google rightly acknowledges the superiority of Nature’s #QuantumComputing capabilities and the fact that living systems are attuned and responsive to their environments — a dramatic contrast to most human designs. Life on Earth has been solving complex, interdisciplinary problems for a long time, and the organisms we witness today display the most energy-efficient and optimized solutions that have been generated within the natural laws of the universe. Quantum computing has its own unique constraints, much different than the macro level world that we are typically occupied with, and I wonder what other scaled insights #Biomimicry could apply to these challenges? What functional questions need to be asked? And what living forms, processes, and systems will spark innovation in this field?

A team of scientists led by Johannes Zeiher just made a big leap in quantum computing by creating a register with 1,200 neutral atoms. They managed to keep it stable for a whole hour, something that’s usually really tricky because of atomic losses. They came up with a smart way to reload the atoms so the system keeps running smoothly. The photo shows a quantum register where neutral atoms are moved from a loading zone on the left to a storage zone on the right. The loading zone is regularly replenished, allowing the storage array to grow and continue functioning without interruption. The movement and replenishing process is key to the system's continuous operation. photo from: (Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ)) Read more: https://lnkd.in/dNYy-Bc6 #QuantumComputing #NeutralAtoms #QuantumTechnology
