Today: National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the Mi’kmaw concept of "Two-Eyed Seeing," coined by Elder Dr. Albert Marshall and Dr. Murdena Marshall. Two-Eyed Seeing combines the strengths of Indigenous Knowledge Systems with those of the mainstream to ensure actions taken today don’t compromise the future of a species or ecosystem. Applying this concept in fisheries management is not only important to advance reconciliation in Canada, but it can also lead to abundant fisheries and resilience in the face of climate change. In July 2022, one of the worst fires in recent history hit the region of Galicia, Spain. Despite the intense effort of firefighters and forestry agents, the fire was still out of control after several days. Environmental journalists have been putting their lives at risk to document these tragic stories. But without #PressFreedom, we can't extinguish climate denial and misinformation. Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) has been involved in a study that provides the most advanced and comprehensive analysis of climate change impacts on the UK's marine environment. The study offers vital insights to support effective marine conservation and economic growth through climate-smart marine planning. Key highlights of the study: 🌊 Identifies areas across UK seas where marine conservation, fisheries, and aquaculture could be best supported in the face of climate change. 🌊 Provides recommendations on how to utilise 'climate change refugia' – areas exhibiting natural resistance to climate pressures – for climate-resilient policy design. 🌊 Emphasises the urgent need for climate-adaptive spatial management strategies to safeguard our marine ecosystems and maritime sectors. This groundbreaking research has the potential to shape marine planning policies across the UK nations, ensuring a sustainable future for our oceans and the industries that depend on them. The Science Based Targets Network is seeking public input to help develop the first ocean-focused science-based targets for companies, specifically focusing on seafood value chains. This feedback will shape practical guidance, set for release in 2025. Developed by the SBTN Ocean Hub, led by WWF and Conservation International, with partners including The Nature Conservancy, FishWise, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, and United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), this is a chance for the public to contribute to a multi-stakeholder process and ensure the final guidance is robust, clear, and practical. Share your input and support the first ocean science-based targets. https://lnkd.in/evv-mP8b #Ocean #OceanAction #ScienceBasedTargets #Sustainability

4wDoes your post mean that EUSTAFOR supports the EU FML with all of its annexes? One question about the video: how do you explain that only 14% of forest habitats are in favorable conservation status within the Natura 2000 network?
