Apart from man, no being in nature creates waste. The Global Waste Management Outlook 2024 report by UNEP reveals an alarming projection: municipal solid waste generation is set to increase from 2.1 billion metric tons in 2020 to 3.8 billion metric tons by 2050. The direct global cost of waste management, which was around USD 252 billion in 2020, could nearly double by 2050, reaching USD 640.3 billion when considering the hidden costs related to pollution, health, and climate change from inadequate waste disposal. This underscores the critical need for urgent action in waste management to mitigate environmental and economic impacts. #SustainableDevelopment #WasteManagement #CircularEconomy #EnvironmentalSustainability #ClimateAction #ZeroWaste #UNEP #GlobalWaste #RecyclingInnovation #EcoFriendly Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eVyf9_Ed"

At DISAITEK, we are deeply concerned by the findings in the latest UNEP Global Waste Management Outlook. The report highlights a critical and escalating issue: waste in uncontrolled landfills is projected to rise dramatically by 2050, despite past goals set in the 2016 release to eliminate uncontrolled dumping and open burning by 2020. We are far from achieving these objectives, unable to bend the curve, and the consequences for public health and the environment in low-income countries are dire. At Disaitek, we are not just observers; we are committed to being part of the solution. With our expertise in satellite-derived analytics on uncontrolled waste, we are ready to contribute to meaningful actions that address the challenges of uncontrolled landfills. We believe that collaboration is key, and it's a pivotal moment for organizations like UN Environment Programme and the The World Bank to leverage their influence for real change. By moving from insights to impactful actions, we can all play a role in creating a sustainable future and avoiding the adverse outcomes that so many reports in the past have highlighted about hazardous pollution, premature deaths and societal issues. Together, let's harness our collective expertise and resources to make a significant difference in this critical issue. It's time for action, and at Disaitek, we know how to handle it. Global Waste Management Outlook-2024 'Turning rubbish into a resource' UNEP-WCMC UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre UNEP West Asia ISWA International Solid Waste Association The report provides an update on global waste generation and the cost of waste and its management since 2018. The analysis uses life cycle assessments to explore what the world could gain or lose through continuing business-as-usual, adopting halfway measures, or committing fully to zero waste and circular economy societies. The report also evaluates three potential scenarios of municipal waste generation and management, examining their impacts on society, the environment, and the global economy. Furthermore, it presents potential strategies for waste reduction and enhanced management, following the waste hierarchy, to treat all waste materials as valuable resources. Key findings: Municipal solid waste generation is predicted to grow from 2.1 billion tonnes in 2023 to 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050. In 2020, the global direct cost of waste management was an estimated USD 252 billion. When factoring in the hidden costs of pollution, poor health and climate change from poor waste disposal practices, the cost rises to USD 361 billion. Without urgent action on waste management, by 2050 this global annual cost could almost double to a staggering USD 640.3 billion. The report’s modelling shows that getting waste under control by taking waste prevention and management measures could limit net annual costs by 2050 to USD 270.2 billion. #rubbish #waste #resource #wealth #wastetoresource #wastetowealth

Exploring the Diverse Applications of Carbon Dioxide in Administrative Support and Waste ManagementApril 22, 2024 The article delves into the multifaceted applications of carbon dioxide (CO2) within the realms of administrative support, waste management, and remediation services. These sectors play pivotal roles in maintaining the operational integrity of businesses while simultaneously addressing pressing environmental concerns. Administrative support encompasses crucial functions such as office administration, human resources management, and facilities management, offering indispensable support to organizations by managing non-core tasks effectively. In parallel, waste management and remediation services focus on responsible waste collection, treatment, and disposal, as well as environmental cleanup and site remediation, all aimed at addressing environmental sustainability and public health challenges.Within this context, GAO Tek’s CO2 solutions emerge as versatile tools with diverse applications tailored to the unique requirements of these sectors. From fire suppression systems safeguarding critical administrative and data center facilities to eco-friendly cleaning products utilized in waste management and janitorial services, CO2-based solutions offer efficient and sustainable alternatives to traditional methods. Additionally, GAO CO2 is instrumental in pH regulation during wastewater treatment processes, ensuring compliance with stringent environmental regulations while enhancing treatment effectiveness.Furthermore, the article highlights the role of CO2 in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, crucial for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. By capturing CO2 emissions from industrial processes and preventing their release into the atmosphere, CCS contributes significantly to environmental preservation efforts. Moreover, the use of solid CO2, known as dry ice, proves invaluable in decontaminating surfaces in remediation services dealing with hazardous materials and contaminants. The comprehensive overview underscores GAO Tek’s commitment to compliance with industry standards and government regulations across various regions. By adhering to standards such as OSHA General Industry Standards, EPA Greenhouse Gas Regulations, and NFPA 12, among others, GAO Tek ensures the safety, efficacy, and environmental sustainability of its CO2 solutions. https://lnkd.in/d7SMdy9E #diverse #administration #waste #management #support #exploring #application

How to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by about 20%? “The findings of this report demonstrate that the world urgently needs to shift to a zero waste approach, while improving waste management to prevent significant pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and negative impacts to human health. Pollution from waste knows no borders, so it is in everyone’s interests to commit to waste prevention and invest in waste management where it is lacking. The solutions are available and ready to be scaled up. What is needed now is strong leadership to set the direction and pace required, and to ensure no one is left behind,” said Zoë Lenkiewicz, lead author of the report.
