Breaking Down Barriers: In our commitment to fostering disability inclusion, we recognise terminology can be a stumbling block for many employers. That's why we're launching a new series, 'Word of the Week', to demystify key terms. This week, we delve into the world of 'Disability.' Image description: Image with a teal background featuring white text defining the term "Disability". The definition reads: "Disability, noun. Under the Equality Act 2010, a person is considered disabled if they have a physical or mental impairment that significantly and long-term affects their ability to perform normal daily activities. Specifically:" The text is presented in a clear and informative style. #DisabilityInclusion #WordOfTheWeek #BreakingBarriers

Today, the globe comes together for International Day of People with Disability! A celebration of resilience, inclusion, and progress. With over 1 billion people worldwide living with disability, it’s a chance for everyone to reflect on how we can create a more accessible and equitable future. From community events to global campaigns, this day is about more than just awareness, it’s about action. It’s about smashing barriers, embracing diversity, and building a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. So, whether it’s sharing a story, supporting an initiative, or simply taking a moment to listen and learn, let’s all play our part. Together, we can make every day a step closer to full inclusion. #disabilitypride #disabilityrights #disabilityinclusion #disabilityawareness #disability #disabilityadvocate #accessibility #abilitynotdisability #disabilitysupport #disabilitylifestyle #internationaldayofpeoplewithdisability

Shift your perspectives and change lives. Disability inclusion isn't about fixing individuals — it's about transforming society. Reframing our attitudes has the immediate power to create a world where everyone's abilities are valued. Working full time with people with disabilities over 3+ years has taught me a powerful lesson: changing attitudes is the key to true inclusion. So the next time when you catch yourself seeing someone's disability before their ability, pause and flip that thought. What if we saw the glass as half full? Together, we can turn exclusion into inclusion, inadequacies into assets, and challenges into opportunities. Because the only disability in this world is a bad attitude. #DisabilityPride #DisabilityInclusion #ChangingAttitudes #SocialChange #Disability #Inclusion #SocialStigma Mike Potter Huhana Hickey MNZM PHD

Disability is Diverse There isn't one single image, condition or experience that defines Disability. There isn't any hierarchy to Disability. We don't play "Disability Trumps" We are all different. We are all unique. We are all valuable and incredible. We deserve and need a space at every Inclusion Table. Especially as Disability is the least targeted under represented group globally If you are creating a DEI strategy and aren't including and listening to Disabled People Then you are not being inclusive. Nothing about us without us. #DisabilityInclusion #Disability #DisabilityConfident Image ID: A disabled person is knocking on the door of a meeting room. The sign says DEI Meeting. Inside the meeting room are 5 figures sat around the table. The text in a speech bubble says: Now everyone is here. Let's talk about Disability

I'm excited to introduce a book that I co-authored on accessibility and inclusive architectural concepts. It's highly recommended for accessibility professionals, advocates, and anyone engaged in the disability discourse. #disability, #inclusion, #architecturaldesign, #barrierfree, #vocationaleducation
