Intermodal expansion: does it pay to be sustainable? Discussions about development of our intermodal business at #LTGCargo has been a top priority in recent weeks. Our current focus stays on developing our Klaipeda-Kaunas and Kaunas-Duisburg routes, which we already operate. As Europe strives to achieve green course goals by 2030, stricter regulations at EU and national levels are crucial for shifting freight from road to rail. At the moment we are witnessing a reverse process, comparing 2022 and 2023 results of H1 10 percent drop of combined transport amounts is noticeable. The recent UIRR (International Union for Rail-Road Combined Transport) Nordic Seminar provided an excellent platform to discuss the challenges of combined transport in Nordic countries, to exchange knowledge and connect with industry peers. Key takeaways from the seminar: Regulatory Updates: Staying informed about EU regulations is essential for navigating the intermodal landscape. Market Insights: Understanding the Scandinavian market is crucial for identifying growth opportunities. Industry Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships within the intermodal community is key to achieving shared goals. Capacity Regulation: Addressing capacity constraints is essential for efficient operations. CO2 Certification: Promoting EU-level CO2 certification to incentivize combined transport. eFTI Implementation: Exploring the benefits of eFTI for improved efficiency and paper reduction. By focusing on these areas, we can drive the growth of our intermodal business and contribute to a more sustainable future, but do we all think the same way? Big thanks Ralf-Charley Schultze for this event and opportunity to meet! #intermodal #logistics #sustainability #rail #transport #EU #regulation

Last week, our Rebel Kimmo Oostermeyer presented at the RailTech conference in Utrecht on competition in international railway connections in Europe. His main message was that competition can be a catalyst to improve international rail. Competition drives an improved service offering with lower ticket prices, realising a higher demand and therefore an increased revenue for both incumbent and new entrants. But even with the 4th Railway Package in place, important obstacles remain, such as the availability of maintenance facilities, access to passengers for sales and information, and through-ticketing. However, competition is not the silver bullet for any route or network and should be organised in order to be effective. Kimmo's contribution was also covered by RailTech.com: https://lnkd.in/eNT3-Uun #RailTech #RailwayConnections #Competition #EuropeanRailways

How can major rail projects achieve their full potential? The answer lies in end-to-end, fully integrated solutions, yet the industry remains fragmented and ill-placed to overcome increasingly demanding, multifaceted projects. Ahead of InnoTrans we’re discussing how integrated rail solutions drive success across every phase. From initial planning and design to delivery and operations, a seamless approach helps reduce risks, enhance collaboration, and ultimately deliver more efficient and sustainable infrastructure for communities. Discover more about the power of this approach to major projects and how it’s reshaping the future of transport: https://lnkd.in/eVSqGE7U #RailAndTransit #InnoTrans2024 #InnoTransConvention
