Thought-Provoking Thursdays: Digital Transformation in Social Care: Bridging the Accessibility Gap Introduction: The integration of digital technologies in social care has the ability to revolutionised service delivery, particularly for individuals with disabilities. This series will explore the impact of digital transformation, the benefits, potential pitfalls, and the future of assistive technologies. Impact of Digital Transformation Benefits: Improved Accessibility: Digital tools like speech-to-text applications, screen readers, and mobile apps have made information and services more accessible. Enhanced Communication: Platforms such as telehealth services and online support communities enable individuals with disabilities to connect with healthcare providers and peers, reducing isolation and improving mental health. Personalised Care: Data analytics and artificial intelligence can tailor care plans to individual needs, ensuring more effective and personalised support. Potential Pitfalls: Digital Divide: Access to technology is not uniform. Socioeconomic factors often determine who can benefit from digital advancements, leaving some individuals with disabilities at a disadvantage. Privacy Concerns: The increased use of digital tools raises concerns about data privacy and security. Ensuring that sensitive information is protected is paramount. Training and Support: Both care providers and recipients need adequate training to effectively use digital tools. Lack of training can hinder the adoption and effectiveness of these technologies. Stay tuned for next week's post where we will discuss the Market for Pseudo-Inconvenience Prevention and its implications for true accessibility in social care. #ThoughtProvokingThursdays #DigitalTransformation #AssistiveTechnology #Accessibility #Inclusion #SocialCare #FutureTech

If you missed our May webinar ‘What makes a customer ‘vulnerable’ and how to support them', it’s now available to watch on-demand on HiHub, which you can watch here https://lnkd.in/ezRyBizn Catch up with the discussion when we covered: 👉 What is vulnerability: from official definitions to perceptions of definitions as discussed by ‘vulnerable people 👉 Legal regulations and requirements: what you might need to do to deliver information and customer service for vulnerable customers, depending on your industry 👉 Why vulnerability needs accessibility: The links between vulnerability requirements (from regulators) and accessibility requirements (like the European Accessibility Act) are clear, so making progress in accessibility can also help organisations meet requirements to meet the needs of vulnerable customers 👉 Why accessibility needs vulnerability: While WCAG covers the needs of many people who are vulnerable, you need to go beyond it to support the needs of some ‘missing audiences’ who are clearly referenced in vulnerability requirements, like those who are neurodiverse, ageing or who have mental health needs – the recording provides links to the extra Guidelines you need 👉 How people working in accessibility and vulnerability are stronger when they work together: Teams should harmonise strategies and budgets to deliver to each set of requirements together, so they can get more done with less, and customers who are vulnerable can find all the support information they need (including accessibility information) in one place on an organisation’s website #VulnerableConsumers #Vulnerability #Inclusion #DigitalAccessibility #InclusiveDesign

👀 Future of care signal sweep 👀 I’m currently working on a project looking at the future of care. Specifically in the disability space, but also looking at what’s happening in the related care sectors. I’ve got a bunch of amazing signals and open tabs at the moment as I get stuck in the scanning phase, but as is always the case, as soon as I mention a topic I’m working on to someone, they’ll say ‘oh, you should really look at xyz…’. So I thought I might as well have that conversation here with some working outloud. So, if you know someone cool or something interesting and status-quo challenging happening anywhere in the world around… ➡️ care ➡️ care workers (hiring / educating / developing / retaining) ➡️ multi-disciplinary approaches to care ➡️ new ways of designing / building for care provision ➡️ intersections of different types of care needs / health tech / accessibility tech ➡️ organisational design for care ➡️ social prescribing ➡️ business models of care organisations …then I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re worried about suggesting someone / something as you don’t want them to be bonbarded with a request for their time, I won’t need to talk to everyone (unless they really want to!). A good article or paper is likely enough to feed the hungry signal spotting machine. (And yes, I’m already excited to have an excuse to pull out the Buurtzorg case studies and fan girl over them for this project 😍) Ps. I’m always happy to return this favour. You all have an unlimited pass* to ask me ‘have you seen anything interesting on [topic]’. *fair use policy applies. #care #FuturesThinking #SignalsOfChange

📣 Call for Evidence: Scaling CareTech Services The APPG for Assistive Technology and the ATech Policy Lab have launched a call for evidence to understand how policymakers and the technology sector can scale the adoption of technologies for care and independent living. We’re asking for your views about different approaches that government and local authorities can take to promote more choice for individuals and more innovation in industry. Our questions cover these themes: 1) More flexible service planning and team arrangements within local authorities. 2) Adapting existing funding streams. 3) Co-production and user-directed provision. 4) Clearer roles and responsibilities for government, local authorities, the technology sector and care providers. How's the CA governor's foray into telehealth working? I dove into some public records to find out. - Only about 15,000 have signed up, 0.1% of the target demo. - State won't say yet how many are active users. - One of the apps won’t be available on Android until the summer. My latest for KFF Health News, California Healthline, and Chalkbeat
