As an accessibility champion, these kinds of posts make my day! I think this issue of accessibility trailing behind is not just true of healthcare but other industries. Anyone designing products or related marketing, especially digital, should shift left & consider leveraging innovations to increase accessibility from the start! #ShiftLeft #A11Y #accessibility #A11YDesign #AccessibleDesign #AccessibilityDesign #InclusiveDesign #ProductDesign #WebA11Y #WebAccessibility #WebDesign #DigitalHealth #InclusiveHealthcare

🌐 In healthcare, accessibility often trails behind advancements, limiting over a billion people with disabilities. The journey through physical and digital barriers in health settings reveals considerable gaps and that means real impact for people. 💡 Innovations like voice-assisted technology and AI-driven tools are carving paths for a more inclusive future. By integrating accessibility from the design and strategy phases, we’re not just enhancing care but embracing empathy and empowering people to determine their individual health journeys. 🤝 Let’s keep advocating for seamless and inclusive healthcare experiences. A truly accessible future is possible. #HealthcareInclusion #AccessibilityDesign #InclusiveHealthcare #DigitalHealth #InclusiveDesign

Join us today as we recognize Ageism Awareness Day with the American Society on Aging. #AgeismAwarenessDay gives us the opportunity to reflect on and spread awareness about age-related prejudice, discrimination and stereotypes. Ageism can have a profound impact on the health and well-being of our communities. One common ageism-related misconception about older adults is that they are unable or unwilling to use technology, particularly for telehealth. “Older adults absolutely can use technology,” says Dr. Kathy Wibberly, a member of the Collaborative for Telehealth and Aging. “Sometimes, we need to use plain language and instruction. It can be hard for them to grasp what it means to have information ‘in the cloud,’ but there are other ways to talk about it that they can understand from a generational standpoint. However, they’re not always given the opportunity.” At the Center of Excellence for Telehealth and Aging, we believe in meeting older adults where they are and equipping them with the telehealth tools they need for a positive healthcare experience. Learn more about how your organization can promote positive telehealth experiences for older adults by checking out our principles and guidelines at the link below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gs_7AY2u #AgeismAwarenessDay #TalkAboutAgeism #telehealth#telemedicine #virtualcare #virtualhealthcare #healthtech

It's projected that by 2030, older persons will outnumber youth globally. I recall watching a docuseries about ‘Blue Zone’ regions around the world where people live significantly longer and healthier lives in comparison to the global average due to a combination of lifestyles choices, physical activity and healthy diet. Came across this brilliant initiative to assist and equip the elderly with tech skills. Making digital education inclusive & accessible to them. In-line with this year’s theme for World Day for Older Persons that was observed a earlier this month – ‘Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide’, this initiative addresses several key areas like digital literacy, loneliness, and community building for the elderly. #DigitalInclusion #Technology

Thought-Provoking Thursdays: Digital Transformation in Social Care: Bridging the Accessibility Gap Introduction: The integration of digital technologies in social care has the ability to revolutionised service delivery, particularly for individuals with disabilities. This series will explore the impact of digital transformation, the benefits, potential pitfalls, and the future of assistive technologies. Impact of Digital Transformation Benefits: Improved Accessibility: Digital tools like speech-to-text applications, screen readers, and mobile apps have made information and services more accessible. Enhanced Communication: Platforms such as telehealth services and online support communities enable individuals with disabilities to connect with healthcare providers and peers, reducing isolation and improving mental health. Personalised Care: Data analytics and artificial intelligence can tailor care plans to individual needs, ensuring more effective and personalised support. Potential Pitfalls: Digital Divide: Access to technology is not uniform. Socioeconomic factors often determine who can benefit from digital advancements, leaving some individuals with disabilities at a disadvantage. Privacy Concerns: The increased use of digital tools raises concerns about data privacy and security. Ensuring that sensitive information is protected is paramount. Training and Support: Both care providers and recipients need adequate training to effectively use digital tools. Lack of training can hinder the adoption and effectiveness of these technologies. Stay tuned for next week's post where we will discuss the Market for Pseudo-Inconvenience Prevention and its implications for true accessibility in social care. #ThoughtProvokingThursdays #DigitalTransformation #AssistiveTechnology #Accessibility #Inclusion #SocialCare #FutureTech

Health Tech: Not Just for the Young and Fit I’ve often heard that health tech primarily targets young and healthy people. And, to some extent, it’s true. I love tracking how my body is working—how much I’m sleeping, my heart rate while running, and even the training zones I’m in. But this week, while spending time with my mom and some of her friends (all around 60 years old and more), I realized something: they are the ones most interested in starting to track their health. They are the Silver Generation—an increasingly active, engaged, and curious demographic redefining aging. While they feel young, they’re also becoming more aware of their health as they see others around them face challenges. They’re curious about tracking sleep, counting steps, monitoring blood pressure, and even understanding EKG rhythms. This is a growing opportunity for health tech. 🌍 The global population is aging, and Latin America is no exception. In fact, the Silver Generation is one of the fastest-growing demographics in the region. Aging should be a stage of life that is pleasant, fun, and active. Health tech can play a vital role in making that happen, but only if we design with inclusivity in mind, ensuring these tools are accessible and relevant for older generations. 💡 In Latin America, important questions arise: What are we doing to support healthy aging? What innovative programs are emerging in our region? From integrating technology into community health initiatives to providing digital literacy workshops for older adults, there are exciting steps being taken. But are we doing enough? How can we better empower the Silver Generation to take control of their health and stay connected? What do you think? What should we be prioritizing to make health tech truly inclusive for older generations in Latin America? I’m sharing an image from a story about a 69-year-old woman who stands tall, proud of everything she has achieved in her life. This story, which won an award for one of the Best Short Story in Medellín, beautifully captures the essence of a generation that has witnessed and adapted to wave after wave of technological change, embracing each new challenge with resilience and grace. They are the pioneers of adaptability, the ones who inspire us to innovate with purpose. These are the people we should be designing for, creating solutions that honor their journey and empower their future.
