🚀 Today marks the Kick-Off of the ASTONISH_eu Project, the beginning of an important journey under SESAR’s Exploratory Research framework to improve airborne and ground surveillance performances through innovative technologies. ASTONISH is a SESAR Joint Undertaking project coordinated by ENAV and includes leading partners German Aerospace Center (DLR), Fraunhofer FHR, Collins Aerospace, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UniNa) / University of Naples Federico II, Fundación Andaluza para el Desarrollo Aeroespacial, and CIRA - Italian Aerospace Research Centre. Together, we are committed to advancing aviation safety and efficiency with cutting-edge solutions. Today IRINA had its first Project Management Board (PMB) meeting of 2024! ✨ 👀 IRINA SESAR3 project partners and the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking have gathered today online to have a project overview and update on the Solution 1️⃣ & 2️⃣ status, risks/issues and opportunities and the feedback on the IRINA Advisory Board Committee (ABC) held recently in June. Overall, the project is on track for making some crucial steps towards RPAS full integration and accommodation into European airspace.  Data that will become a crucial part of the encounter model was provided by the military members and other airspace users (OGN) of IRINA ABC. Yet, there remain some gaps and issues that will need to be covered in the future phases of SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking research. Another important topic discussed is cross-project coordination between IRINA and other #SESAR JU projects, such as ECHO 2 and SOLO, SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking will act as an umbrella to foster #cooperation and exchange of information between the projects to cover the possible gaps of each other, with the possibility to extend cooperation on relevant topics with the other SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking projects. Wrapping up the year with IRINA's Second PMB!🌟✔️ Today IRINA SESAR3 project team held a second Project Management Board meeting (#PMB) with the representatives of the SESAR Joint Undertaking to give an overall #update on the project's #progress📈 and discuss future steps📅.  During this meeting, we:  ✅ Reviewed the latest progress and milestones achieved.  ✅ Discussed #innovative 💡 strategies to address upcoming challenges.  ✅ Aligned on next steps and agreed on the Action Plan to ensure the project remains on track and delivers its goals 🎯.  One of the key topics today was the Validation Plan and the upcoming #validation exercises, particularly those for the IFR- VFR encounters occurring in the Solution 2 environment (D – G airspace). We have established that Solution 2 with its complex environment, like non-cooperative aircraft and low proportion of TCAS equipped intruders as well as non-linear flight trajectories, will require an uncorrelated encounter (UEM) and Non-Transponding (NT) encounter models to cover all types of #RPAS 🛩️ and RPAS manoeuvres concerned.  During this meeting we have also highlighted the importance of finding synergies with other SESAR Joint Undertaking projects, such as SOLO and RESPONSE with whom we had a #coordination 🤝 meeting today as well to discuss the Integration of New Airspace Users in #ATM. We would like to express our gratitude 🙏 to the SESAR Joint Undertaking team for their expert contributions and continuous support to the project.
