You know the feeling of needing a tool that doesn’t exist yet? We’ve been there. When performing security investigations on mobile, we had the tools we needed for Android. But for iPhone? That was a different story. We wanted tools that could enable unparalleled capabilities, like time travel analysis on iOS — tools that hadn’t existed yet. Or, at least, weren’t openly available to us. So, we set out on a journey with a clear goal: to create the top-class resources needed to work with the iPhone. And now, after months of research and development, it’s done. It is now possible to fully emulate an iPhone on #QEMU using only open-source technologies. New iOS Bug Could Crash Your iPhone by Typing Four Characters A security researcher discovered a bug in iOS on Wednesday that can cause iPhones and iPads to briefly crash when a specific sequence of four characters is typed into certain search bars. The bug affects the Apple mobile user interface known as Springboard. The bug is triggered by typing “”:: into specific search fields on iOS devices. However, it has been noted that only the first three characters “”: are actually necessary, with any fourth character causing the crash, TechCrunch added. When these characters are entered, Springboard briefly crashes, causing the device to reload to the lock screen. iOS 17.7—Urgent Update Alert for All iPhone Users Apple has released iOS 17.7, which is recommended for all iPhone users.SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Apple released iOS 17.7 on Monday, urging all iPhone users to update their devices. This update addresses 16 critical security vulnerabilities. Apple has not disclosed detailed information about the fixes to allow users time to update before potential attackers exploit the issues. According to Apple, the iOS 17.7 update "provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users." This update was released alongside iOS 18, which includes many of the same security patches. iOS 17.7 is intended for users who prefer to delay upgrading to the latest version of Apple's software. What’s Fixed in iOS 17.7? iOS 17.7 addresses several critical vulnerabilities, including two significant flaws within the Kernel, which is central to the iOS operating system, according to Apple's support page.
