As a member of the Global Gateway Business Advisory Group, we have been discussing the developments of the Global Gateway toolbox with the European Commission and other industry participants over the past months. But what exactly does this mean for markets and countries? At the recent Germany Trade & Invest webinar, our Policy and Regulation Manager Erhan Erdogan discussed just that with his fellow panelists! In developing sectors, such as the hydrogen economy, the implementation of projects depends heavily on economic factors, but not only. Often bilateral agreements between countries or energy partnerships can guide market participants by aligning policies, regulations and reducing trade barriers. To facilitate this, we expect a diverse toolbox of support possibilities from the Global Gateway initiative, like the establishment of international partnerships, simplified access to European instruments/funding, strategic orientation and the creation of a resilient market environment that enables investments. We also believe that cooperation with strategic regions is important, such as the MENA region, which is currently receiving little attention. The Global Gateway Initiative in general has a lot of potential as it aims to provide both financial and regulatory support to industries such as the hydrogen industry. We look forward to contributing to the further development of the initiative and communicating the needs of the private sector. We support the establishment of a “one-stop-shop”, the creation of new financing tools targeting innovative technologies and transparency on provided support measures. Thanks to Wilhelm Emmrich, Lisa Flatten and Björn Schildberg for the productive and enjoyable exchange! #LOHC #hydrogen #energytransition

In a recent chat, our Director General, Paul Voss and Marco Mensink, Director General at Cefic, talked about the importance and success of the Antwerp Declaration and the urgent need for boosting the competitiveness and electrification of European industries based on renewables 🏭 Key takeaways: 🔹 The Antwerp Declaration has become a powerful catalyst, uniting the EU around a common cause – securing Europe’s industrial future. 🔹 The immense need for electrification and competitiveness is central to ensuring Europe remains a strong industrial hub. With energy and production challenges, especially in the #aluminium sector, it’s clear that Europe needs to double electricity production by 2040. 🔹 The Antwerp Dialogues are not just conversations; they are a structured effort to present actionable priorities to the next European Commission. Together, across sectors, we are shaping the future of European industry, ensuring it remains resilient, competitive and sustainable 💪 #industry #competitiveness #future

【APAS Welcomes the 2024 Policy Address, Driving the Development of New Energy】 Today, Mr John Lee, GBM, SBS, PDSM, PMSM, JP, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, delivered the third Policy Address of his term, which is pragmatic, forward-looking, and fully supported by us at APAS. APAS has always been active in building a green city in Hong Kong and we are advancing the implementation of more automotive technology research and development achievements. The Policy Address mentions the establishment of a HK$10 billion " I&T Industry‑Oriented Fund " by the SAR Government to increase investment and guide more market capital to invest in I&T industries, including the new energy sector we are currently focusing on. We are delighted to see the government allocate financial resources to support the new energy industry, enabling more research centres to delve into green energy technologies, and facilitating Hong Kong's sustainable development. The Policy Address also highlights the allocation of around $750 million under the New Energy Transport Fund to subsidise the taxi trade and franchised bus companies to purchase electric vehicles, and launch the Subsidy Scheme for Trials of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Heavy Vehicles. Furthermore, to promote green and low carbon hydrogen energy, the government actively support the industry to establish a solar‑to‑hydrogen facility for demonstration, introduce a bill next year to ensure the safe use of hydrogen fuel, and formulate the approach of hydrogen standard certification suitable to Hong Kong. These policies can promote the use of hydrogen energy in transportation, reducing the transport sector's dependence on traditional energy resources and accelerating Hong Kong's transition to new energy transportation. As always, APAS will continue fully supporting and adhering to the government's policy directions, promoting, advocating, and developing new energy to build a green future. #APAS #PolicyAddress #PolicyAddress2024 #NewEnergy #Hydrogen #ElectricVehicles

Can the #hydrogen #IPCEI deliver on developing a European decarbonized hydrogen industry? The note below published by Terra Nova- think tank shares my experience and learnings from preparing and negotiating Symbio's #Hymotive #IPCEI. Even if the process took too much time, the IPCEI is the best policy instrument Europe has come up with in terms of #industrialpolicy in recent decades. But for the public money spent to deliver the intended outcomes, we need: 1) a more detailed understanding of the value chains addressed, 2) a stronger European perspective, and 3) a better articulation with other (demand-side) policies. For the hydrogen sector, more support is needed on two fronts: - Reduce the hydrogen price and lower risks for initial large-scale off-takers - Deploy recharging infrastructure and enable vehicle purchases to accelerate the ramp-up of the mobility sector as the biggest long-term hydrogen off-taker. How to maintain/restore the #competitiveness of European industry in times of #energytransition is the key question for the upcoming #EuropeanElections. Decarbonised hydrogen and hydrogen #mobility are part of the solution and offer Europe a chance to regain technology leadership and create industrial jobs. Let's leverage the full potential from the IPCEIs - and avoid re-doing the mistakes we did 10-15 years ago in #photovoltaïcs! What are your learnings, #IPCEI folks? I look forward to your feedback, whether you participated in the hydrogen, #battery or #semiconductor IPCEI! #MySymbioRide Bruno Le Maire Roland Lescure Robert Habeck Matthieu Landon Pierre Jeremie Thomas Courbe Thierry Pech Olivier Lluansi
